Is Pecron's F500 Actually Better Than DIY Solar? Here's the Truth

Good review clarifying what loads and how to power them on the F5000LFP. I wish he would do the same tests with solar input of ~2000 watts or more. I do like he's doing the load tests with the battery closer to full charge, unlike 30% like some others (including his own previous videos) have done.

One Redditor posted a video of his F5000LPF not running his low-wattage power tool and there being an inherent issue with the F5000LFP power that load. Well, I can't find that video in this subreddit anymore and wonder if he removed it, but as you can see, this video disproves that notion or he had a defective unit. But that guy was also trying to power loads with the battery down to 30% as well.

Added 4 more panels to my array and am barely feeding half the capacity of my F5000LFP

Added 4 more 220 watt panels to my setup. Original 10 panels were Rvpozwer HPBC and the additional 4 are AeternalSol clones, except they have silver frames. This brings my total wattage to ~3100 watts, almost half the solar capacity of my Pecron F5000LFP.

Running 7 panels in series on each of the PV inputs. The additional voltage is nice for early morning and late evening production as it keeps it above the minimum of 30V longer.

Today was sunny, but smoke in the atmosphere hurt production a little and I can't wait to see what the array produces in clean air.

I was able to run all my 120V circuits full time off solar with both the F5000LFP and F3000LFP reaching full charge by 5PM and then by morning the F5000LFP's battery is at zero and the F3000LFP is at about 65% before solar charging resumes.

The array peaked at about 2380 watts (170 watts per panel) and at that peak both arrays were fairly close in specs with 110V and 11 amps per arry. If I had the room, I could double this array and simply parallel the additional panels onto the existing arrays, which would keep me around ~110V and 22 amps (in theory). Well under the 180V max and no clipping of the 25 amp limit.

Daily production was just shy of 12 KWH, but as you can see from the graph at the right, around 5 PM, the MPPT is clipping input because both batteries are at 100% and my 120V house load doesn't need the extra input.

Once I wire 220V into my main panel and all loads are handled by the F5000LFP (water heater, well pump, stove), I won't have that clipping problem.

Really happy with both these unts and the ease of implementing them. This winter I plan on buying either some mini splits or portable AC units, both with heat, so I don't have to feed the wood stove as much and hopefully eliminate baseboard heat altogether.

Thoughts on buying a portable dual hose inverter AC unit with heat and placing it in the sunroom and piping hot/cold air into a window into the main house.

Being in the sunroom, it's protected from the elements. No need to even install the in/out hoses unless running one or the other to one of the sun room's outside window would make it more efficient. Pipe the conditioned air into the house a very short distance using insulated ducting. Would this not essentially be quieter and more efficient than traditionally having the portable AC unit inside, at least for cooling? Would these benefits be negated for heating mode where I would actually want to the unit inside?

This would be primarily for heating in the winter to supplement my wood stove but would also be used for 2-3 weeks of summer for cooling.

Secondary question: How much of the efficiency gap has been closed between dual hose portable AC units made in the last year to a mini splits?

Exciting times in portable AC units! Holding off on buying.

With my relatively new solar setup I plan on upgrading the cooling/heating in my house, which currently has no AC (which is really only needed maybe 2-3 weeks out of the year in Custer, SD BUT we need HEAT at least 3 months out of the year) and I heat primarily with wood but we have baseboard heat and my wife cannot control herself not to use it.

I've been holding off buying mini splits and/or a portable AC/heat unit because of recent model releases such as pre-vacuumed mini splits, and portable mini splits, and hopefully the market jumping on these 2 bandwagons.

You think your crystal balls will predict cheaper prices and more manufacturers jumping on the pre-vacuumed and portable mini split bandwagon by Fall? Is it possible the aftermarket will make hoses to convert conventional mini splits into portable ones?

Will portable dual-hose AC/heat units come down in price and/or approach mini split efficiency?

While I'll still heat primarily with wood, it would be nice to laze-out some days and simply turn on the mini-split and/or portable AC as my solar generation should be able to support it. I plan on buying 2 units with at least one unit being portable.

Pecron F5000LFP solar priority charging settings

I've seen people complain they can't get solar priority to work on their F5000LFPs. AC charging reservation along with AC cutoff power are the settings you need to adjust.

Some official\beta app tips

Just a tip with the official/beta apps: DO NOT rename your devices. Especially if you've created automations\scenes. I was getting token key errors because I had created automations and had renamed my devices (for instance removing the UID from my F5000LFP_**** so it simply was named 'F5000LFP').

After unbinding my F3000LFP and re-adding it with its original name: 'F3000LFP_***' it fixed some of those token errors in the official app. I still cannot fix the beta app (the token errors, it works otherwise), even after uninstalling and reinstalling it multiple times.

Finally, the automations in the menu on the F5000LFP do not translate over to the official app and I can't test it in the beta app since it still has token errors. In short, do your automations via the onscreen menu for maximum flexibility.

Pecron you need to program so that this naming\token error can be resolved\deleted, especially in the beta program and that automations are pushed up/down from app to device.
