I recently acquired a 2002 Limited with ~330k miles. Overall, the truck is in great shape and much of the usually needed maintenance has been done over the past 40k miles but I knew before bidding that the timing belt was very overdue.

Yesterday, it got a full checkup by a highly reputable shop in the DMV area and it came back in great overall health but it clearly needs a valve cover gasket replacement and spark plugs since the block is covered in oil and there is no record of them being replaced.

The pricing, however, is eye watering …
Timing belt kit + crank/cam seals - $2300
Valve Cover Gasket + Engine Degreasing - $1300
Spark Plugs - $530
Total - $4130

I was anticipating closer to $2500.

Are these prices as high as they feel? I’ve wrenched on vehicles plenty over the years (mostly brakes, suspension, intakes, oil changes, etc) - how DIY achievable are these?

I’m flying into DFW tomorrow for an afternoon meeting and have a very small window to grab some BBQ. I need recommendations for a place very close (~20 minutes) to DFW or Grand Prairie that will be open on Tuesday and won’t have a long line at 11am. Does Hurtado generally run a line? How is Zavalas? Thanks!
