Internal Auditor (PH) transitioning to cloud accounting / Xero — is this a realistic path for AU/NZ remote roles?

Hi everyone,

I’m an internal auditor with a little over 2 years of experience in financial audits, reconciliations, variance analysis, and internal control reviews across a diversified conglomerate. I currently lead a small audit sub-team (3 members).

Recently, I’ve started transitioning toward cloud accounting and bookkeeping. I just completed the Xero Advisor Certification (Levels 1, 2, and 3). I already have exposure to ERP software (Microsoft Dynamics NAV) kaya medyo easy lang ang pag learn ng Xero.

I’m exploring whether this path is realistic for moving into cloud accounting / bookkeeping / management accounting roles, especially for AU/NZ clients or remote setups.

A few things I’d like honest input on:

  • Is an internal audit background actually valued in cloud accounting/bookkeeping roles, or is it seen as unrelated?
  • What roles should I realistically target first (bookkeeper, assistant accountant, AP/AR, etc.)?
  • How competitive is the PH market for AU/NZ outsourced accounting work right now?
  • What skills or certifications would actually make a difference at this stage (aside from Xero)?

I’m still employed in internal audit, so I’m trying to transition carefully and build the right foundation before making any big move.

Appreciate any honest advice or reality checks from people already in the field.
