Appeared in CSE Mains 3 times, Interview once — my attempts are over, but I’d like to help fellow aspirants

I have appeared in the UPSC CSE Mains three times. I was fortunate to reach the interview stage once, and on another occasion, I missed the interview cutoff by just 2 marks. Despite these attempts, I could not make it to the final list.

My optional was Geography, and I belong to the General category.

My attempts are now over. While I obviously would have loved to see a different outcome, I don’t regret the journey. I genuinely gave it my best, and the preparation taught me a lot—not just academically, but also about discipline, resilience and handling setbacks.

I was preparing while being in Government service (Group B Gazetted). Balancing a full-time job with UPSC preparation was challenging, and I understand how mentally and emotionally draining this journey can become.

What I have realised is that sometimes an aspirant doesn't necessarily need another strategy, another booklist or another topper's timetable. Sometimes you simply need someone who has been through the process and can listen, help you think through a problem, give an honest perspective, or tell you when you're going in the wrong direction.

So, since I no longer have an attempt left, I would like to make whatever I have learnt available to other aspirants.

If you are preparing for CSE and feel that my experience can be of any help—whether it is regarding Geography optional, Mains preparation, answer writing, balancing preparation with a job, interview preparation, handling setbacks, or simply navigating the mental pressure of this journey—please feel free to reach out to me.

I am not offering a paid course or mentorship programme. I am simply willing to help whoever I can, based on my own experience.

I cannot promise that my advice will get you into the final list. What I can promise is that I will try to give you an honest and practical perspective, without selling you a particular strategy or pretending that there is a secret formula for UPSC.

If even one aspirant finds something useful from my experience, I would consider the journey worthwhile.

Feel free to DM me. All the best to everyone preparing. Keep going.

PS: created the image using chatgpt for those who can't read the whole post..will get an idea by going through the image. Thanks again for reaching.

Looking for someone in Mangalore to help me handle increasing workload. 15k per month. Please read the details before you make up your mind.

Before others make judgement about it, it is purely meant to reduce my workload. This is not any attempt to lure/take advantage of anyone. If you think otherwise, feel free to stay away. Payment will be made online/ Gpay/Paytm/Phonepay. There will be full transparency.

I work in hybrid mode from 9AM to 7:30 PM, sometimes even 9 pm. Sometimes the time varies depending upon the time zone of the clients which we are allocated. My firm is a startup and has developed software for the hospitals/medical institutions. Any complications are reported to us immediately. It's like ticket being raised which needs to be resolved. The parameters are accuracy of resolving and the time taken to resolve each case. In most of the cases, it's very minor glitch. Just as we recommend someone to restart the computer if the system shows any issues. This is just an illustration.

Unfortunately, It's getting too hectic for me to handle. I need to be available almost 29/30 days a month, no leaves. If I take leave, I miss the clients and the compensation associated with it. Due to budget constraints, the company isn't willing to hire more staff. Considering that I am looking for someone whom I can explain how to handle the work I do, I am looking for those who know basic/average computer skills. It's not highly technical, decision part will be taken by me. Only thing needs to be done is sufficient technical knowledge to be able to execute it. It's simple task, a file/issue is raised, the issue needs to be understood and acted upon. I will go through the details and advise what course of action to be taken, resolve it immediately, raise it with seniors or temporarily park it for giving additional time for detailed analysis.

The key point here is not to miss the clients requests which keep coming. If one request remains on the screen, the others keep waiting and may go to other experts working remotely elsewhere, probably even out of India.

I get paid for the number of issues resolved, so I need to ensure that I try to resolve as many as I can.

This is the basics. Mostly the action to be taken has some template already laid out. But gradually the person would know what to do in which situation.

In the beginning I would supervise the work. If I get enough trust then the task can be taken up remotely as well with periodic visit whenever required.

The software/platform which I work cannot be disclosed publicly so rest of the details will be shared once the person is shortlisted.

Trust factor is crucial here. If the person doesn't act upon and misses the incoming request of clients, I lose the number of cases attended and hence the payment which I get for it. So the person should be honest enough to take it up sincerely and not merely as timepass.

I am not sure whether I can trust redditors for this but non availability of time and hectic schedule leaves me no choice. So I have decided to give it a try.

If the person turns out to be really responsible and honest, which I will get to know with time, the compensation may go upto 20k.

In case of any further clarification, feel free to ask here. There is nothing to hide, so I am trying to be as articulate as possible.

That person would be required to look after the task in case I am not available, busy in meetings, family commitments etc. I will try my best to support as much as possible.

Only problem which I see in this is that company software/platform has been installed on a particular laptop, and work can only be performed through it. So let's see if we can try to make it work somehow. Effectively, the work is barely 2-3 hours daily particularly whenever I am not available to address the client requests. Sometimes we get 4-5 requests per hour, sometimes none in 4-5 hours. So, the incoming request has to be attended carefully. That's all.

To sum it up, it's more about being available at the system and attend the incoming request as and when they come. I will take care of the complicated cases myself. Time 2-3 hours. Sometimes longer, somedays lesser than that.

Please don't abuse me for posting this. I thought a lot before posting here. It's an honest post with the hope to find the right person.
