New to Derya

Relatively new to gun ownership but I’ve purchased more than half a dozen in three months.

My latest was a TM22 Standard from Fleet Farm this weekend on sale. No photos as it’s just a standard rifle in black.

I do have a few questions.

As far as the 10, 15, and 25 round mags. Are there issues with any of them? I want to buy extras and I would prefer to avoid problematic ones. I know sometimes with other brands, a 5 or 10 round might work better than a 15 round for instance. Also, I just need to watch out and make sure whatever I get has the notch in it, correct?

Also, the stock kit for cheek riser…is that available anywhere besides Derya’s own website?

Any recommendations for a cheap scope and bipod? Preferably under $150 for both items. I’d like to keep this a budget “build”.

I don’t suppose there is any aftermarket support is there? Upgrades for barrel or charging handle or just about anything else? I know it’s not a 10/22 and I’m not expecting much, but my searches didn’t come up with much of anything. A couple items from Canada that appear to not be available any longer.

Lastly, a non-TM22 Standard question. How is the Melik? I didn’t know about that gun until yesterday and I watched a few videos. Any issues with them from owners here? I’d like to get a DA/SA and that fits my price point as well as the overall type of gun I want. I can’t justify a Beretta. Everything I own is relatively cheap considering.

Thanks for any help.

New to Stoeger Ownership

I was going to make a post asking about buying a gun, but figured if I did that, someone might decide to find that deal and beat me to it...so I "pulled the trigger" and now I'll mention it.

I have been looking for my first 9mm. I wasn't planning on buying a Stoeger necessarily, but Cabela's had a factory blem STR-9F Combat listed as used with only one 20 round mag. It was $450. I kept watching it and this morning when I checked, they clearanced it to $250. So I got it for $268 with tax. From my local store that is a little over an hour away.

I'm new to gun ownership(3 months since my first purchse), but I've already got a few different guns. I won't get into too many details, but I have 3 different 22LR guns (semi-auto, revolver, and carbine) and 2 different 30 Super Carry pistols. Also an AR stripped lower to build some day...need to research before I start with that.

Based on my reading here, I would guess that $270 out the door is pretty decent for a basically brand new gun just missing a couple mags.

This is going to be just for the range. I wanted to have fun with something a little bigger and heavier than my 30 SC guns. I'm mainly just curious how much more recoil 9mm actually has than 30 SC and with a larger gun, I'm hoping it's pretty similar in how they feel and I'm hoping this gun shoots a little better in terms of flatness/less muzzle flip.

Since I'm new here, any recommendations for me? Ammo recommendations (what works best in your opinion for brand/grain?), optics recommendations (I was looking at Osight and Vortex possibly), should I order a couple extra mags since I'm only getting one (Midwest Gun Works and Stoeger are the only places to get them, right)?

Thanks.

Intro and What Next?

Hi, so I’m new to the group (just joined now) and I’m fairly new to guns.

I’m long-winded so I apologize in advance. Skip to the bottom for TLDR.

I’m new to gun ownership. I shot BB and 22 as a kid 30 years ago. I took a handgun intro course a couple months ago. I started buying guns. I own FPC 22 and 22x, Super Wrangler, and a couple non-22’s (Shield EZ and Shield Plus in 30 Super Carry). Only other round I’ve ever shot was 38 Special at the handgun course.

I’ve got enough pistols for now…I do want a target pistol later (Mark IV 22/45 from the handgun class was a lot of fun) but I’m not going to talk about that now.

I want a new rifle. I’m buying one more gun this year and then I’ll save up for something else next year. I plan on owning all 3 types but I don’t know which one to get now.

Semi auto like 10/22. Lever action like Henry. Or, bolt action like an American Rimfire.

Based on what I currently own, what do you recommend to fill a gap?

So far I’ve found that I just really like the range time. It’s peaceful and fun. I’m not worried about competition or carrying with pistols. It’s really just about plinking and target shooting. And I’d like to get both my 18 yo and my 7 yo into shooting as well. My 18 yo I’ll probably start taking after I make him take a handgun course. He knows rifles from Scouts. My youngest is not ready for guns so in a few more years I’ll get him into it.

TLDR;
I have a 22x and FPC 22, a Super Wrangler, and a Shield Plus & Shield EZ in 30 SC.

What rifle should I buy (last gun for the year)? Semi auto, lever, or bolt? And what recommendations for brand/model? I have Cabela’s/Bass Pro gift cards to cover about $450-500 of it so I’ll be shopping whatever they have or can get.

Thanks for your help!

Intro to Handgun course…

So yeah, as the title states…took a handgun course at a local range. I guess most everything in it wasn’t really new to me but I was happy to go over it all and also have an instructor help me with the first time shooting in so long and with handguns…was just nervous since I’ve never shot handguns before.

Mark IV and a .38 revolver were what we got to shoot. I’m not sure what I did with that low to the right shot. Most of the 38 shots were DA but a couple were SA to see the difference. Distance was roughly 4-5 yards.

Luckily it’s their slowest time for people taking classes so there were only three of us and we got more time on the range than the owner likes to do. Pretty sure he’s a cheap fucker. Instructor said the course used to be almost a full day with a good amount of range time and now it’s a 2.5 hour class and usually 22 only with probably less than 20 rounds total per person. Instructor was happy to see the owner leave for the day before we hit the range.

I’ve been lurking here a while..posting or commenting a little here and there.

I haven’t shot a gun in 30ish years. That was 22’s and BB guns as a kid.

Any kind of feedback on this would be good. I don’t take criticism well but I’m in need of it. lol.

I know a couple things I need to work on are breathing and getting used to using both eyes instead of closing one.

Which One for Range Fun...?

So I'm trying to decide on one of the following. Pretty different types of guns, but their purpose for me is going to be the same...just fun.

I'm looking at a S&W M&P FPC in 22LR and also the Ruger 10/22 Carbon Fiber. The 10/22 is a little bit more expensive, but both interest me and I wouldn't mind owning both...just can't afford to buy both right now.

I'm curious which one you think would be more fun taking to a range and hitting plates or targets with?

Experiences?

Also, for each one, what would you recommend for an optic? Curious what type of optic you would recommend for either one? RDS or LPVO? RDS w/ Magnifier? Not wanting to spend more than $300 on an optic. I'll take recommendations on specific brand/model too if you want to share that.

Any help would be appreciated. I'll be buying something on Monday.

EDIT: I guess for the FPC, I'd probably get an RDS and not an LPVO, but would a magnifier work or make sense at all?

2018 Niro EX with 170k miles on it. SE Minnesota. Bought it in December last year with 173k miles.

On my commute to work, I’m always running behind (blame my neurodivergence on that) so I only average 36-42 MPG most days. But on the way home I take a different route and take city roads and back county highway instead of interstate. And I can manage this on that slower, more peaceful drive.

I’m still trying to learn how to get even better economy and I’m sure I can break the 60 MPG mark. The difference of 8 MPG is mostly due to no cruise control vs cruise control on the other two photos. The first photo was this weekend and the other two were last weekend.

I would be curious to see how a newer Niro HEV and PHEV would work for me considering my commute and climate. The biggest perk to me with the PHEV is charging for free at work on my 12 hour shifts.
