Is my Black Neon Tetra just full of eggs, or could this be something I should worry about?

Hey! I’m coming up to almost a year of having my aquarium, and these Black Neons were actually some of the first fish I bought. So, I wanted to see what the smarter people think here, because I’m still learning and would rather double-check than assume.

I noticed today that one of them is significantly rounder than all the others, and I’ve never noticed them looking like this before. I’ve attached a few close-ups for comparison, plus a full tank shot for context.

They seem to be behaving completely normally, swimming with the group and eating normally. The belly looks quite evenly rounded and I can’t see any obvious pineconing.

I’m thinking she might just be a female full of eggs, but wanted to double-check that this doesn’t look like bloating, dropsy, parasites or anything else that could potentially affect the rest of the tank.

Would you be concerned, or does she just look very eggy?

Disclaimer: some of these photos were taken at feeding time with Bug Buffet in full swing, so the tank is actually a lot cleaner than it might initially look. Bug Buffet goes everywhere.

Any OE folks in Australia?

Hey everyone,

I’m pretty new to the idea of overemployment. I’ve always had side gigs or picked up extra work alongside my main job, but I’m interested in exploring a more permanent OE setup.

I was curious whether there are many Australians here doing it successfully. Given how common hybrid work is here, I’d love to hear what your experience has been.

A few questions:

  • What industry are you in?
  • Has being based in Australia made OE easier or harder compared to what you see from people in the US?
  • Are there any tax, super, or legal considerations that caught you by surprise?

One thing I’m also wondering about is role selection. I’ve always gravitated towards higher stress, higher responsibility roles where I have a lot of influence. Is the general consensus to keep J1 as your career-focused role and make J2 something lower pressure that’s easier to manage? Or do people successfully juggle two senior roles?

Keen to hear any advice or lessons learned before I dive in. One of my long-term goals is to accelerate my savings (house deposit), so I’m interested in hearing how other Australians have approached it.
