Florence city elections will no longer be partisan under new law

A new state law will abolish partisan elections in two South Carolina cities: Greenville and Florence. It excludes a handful of other cities with partisan elections, such as Aiken and North Augusta.

Florence Mayor Lethonia “Peaches” Barnes said she is disappointed the city wasn’t consulted about the changes. Without information from state officials, she said she’s in the dark about how this will affect the city of Florence and its elections.
