Is my Takoon X-Glide V2 1700 suitable for learning dockstarts / pump foiling? (89kg rider)
Hi everyone,
I’m looking to get into dockstarts and flatwater pump foiling. I currently own a **Takoon X-Glide V2 1700** foil setup, and I'm planning to pair it with a dedicated pump foil board.
Before buying the board, I want to make sure I’m not fighting gear that will hold me back.
**My stats and gear:**
* **Rider weight:** 89 kg (approx. 196 lbs)
* **Front Wing:** Takoon X-Glide V2 1700 (Mid-aspect, 1700 cm²)
* **Target Board:** Small, dedicated pump foil board
I know that dedicated pump foilers usually lean towards high-aspect wings for maximum glide and efficiency. Given my weight, does the 1700 cm² size of the X-Glide V2 give me enough low-speed lift to offset the drag of a mid-aspect shape for learning dockstarts? Or will the drag make it exhausting to sustain a pump for more than a few seconds?
Would love to hear from anyone who has tried dockstarting mid-aspect wings or has experience with Takoon setups for flatwater pumping. Should I stick with this to learn the initial jump, or look into upgrading to something like the Takoon Glide or another high-aspect wing right away?
Thanks in advance!"
