I wasted my life on this career

It's 2AM and I'm sitting here reading linkedlin profile of my ex-classmates

every single one has FAANG experience and at least half have multiple teams reporting to them, they are the people who are deciding who to hire/fire, they can peace out tommorow and live like kings for rest of their lives

I'm still just an IC who still need my job at a shit company getting paid poverty level wages because my mental health can't handle heavy workload at a real tech company. i always thought i had more time to ramp up to a better job but that window seem to have closed because of AI.

Why do we romanticize "hardy loner individuals" in fiction when human evolution showed that group collaboration is key to survival?

Archaelogical evidence show that group cooperation was essential for how our ancestors survived and thrived on the African Savannah a million years ago. Even today you can see examples of this like how having a big social network help you find a job or partner easier. Our experience as a species points to community as the best strategy for success. So why are so many popular fiction idolize the loner types?

How did Infantry-artillery coordination improve so much in the late war?

One of the most interesting claims I heard a military historian make is that tanks were never decisive in WWI, and at tactical level what enabled breakthroughts were better coordination between infantry and artillery. What was achieved in this field in 1918 that wasn't there in in 1915-16

Why does tech still have the stereotype that it's supposed to be a game for 20 somethings?

https://seldo.com/posts/ai-has-torched-the-market-for-junior-programmers/

> Developers aged 22 to 25 are down 19% from their late-2022 peak. Every cohort over 30 grew over the same period, with 41-to-49-year-olds up 14%.

When I first started tech I had a relative who told me "you have to go rennovate and flip houses because in tech once you are older no one will hire you"

now opposites is true where it's the 20 somethings who aren't getting hired anymore while older devs are seeing -uptick- in employment

My company is introducing JIRA=>PR AI pipeline: are we cooked

Just run Claude against jira ticket and out pops a PR, which then gets reviewed by claude. Before approval by human.

Expectation is 50% increase in output atm.

Got told like 3x "dont' worry you'll still have your jobs cuz you need to review/validate the code" but also "the AI will keep getting better and better".

Claude skill is supposed to iterate and learn and get better context put in by devs, you can tell where this is going.

Are we cooked chat

Would Eastern Rome had being better off with a western style primogeniture monarchy?

Intuitively, the answer is "yes". Since primogeniture offers a much more predictable succession system, and it's much harder for successful generals with no royal blood to create civil wars by trying to usurp the throne as they did in Byzantium.

But Antony Kardalis makes interesting counter-argument: that while civil wars and usurpations were semi-frequent: most of them weren't that damaging to the Roman state. Accordingly to him, over the entire length of 1000+ years of eastern Roman history there were only 4 really destructive civil wars to the state (The one after Maurice was deposed, 1071-1081, the one between kantakouzenos and the palaiologos and one other I can't remember). And western European monarchies also had some very destructive civil wars over much shorter periods of existence. It's entire possible that the -rate- of truly bad civil wars is similar.

At the same time the Byzantine succession system is more meritocratic and you had some -very- good emperors such as Anastasius I or John Tzimiskes who had little/no blood relation to the imperial family who would never have gained the throne under primogeniture. And really bad emperors would just get deposed.

So what do you guys think?

DAE feel like a least 50% of the threads in this sub has exactly same format and are LLM generated?

Every posts has exactly same format: "I am a X YoE <senior/staff/lead> engineer at <FAANG> company and this is why AI is <good/bad>, the job market is <good/bad/really bad>."

And the replies all sound exactly the same too every thread, feels like this sub is a bunch of chatbots talking to each other lol
