Am I making a smart founder move or just romanticising Bangalore startup life?

Hey guys,

So me and my co-founder are planning to move to Bangalore around June for like 2-3 months initially, maybe longer if things work out. I’m currently in Delhi rn and honestly kinda confused whether this is a really smart move or I’m just getting too influenced by the whole “startup in bangalore” thing 😭

For context:

I’m a student + founder and I work a lot in hackathons, Web3, tech communities, events etc. We organise events, build stuff, meet people, all that. And tbh it feels like Bangalore has way more opportunities and density for this kinda stuff compared to Delhi.

But at the same time bro Bangalore is EXPENSIVE 😭

I do have some savings but I also dont wanna burn all my money just trying to “live the founder life” there. So rn the plan is:

- take a PG/coliving for first 1-2 months

- explore the city properly

- attend events

- maybe then look for a flat after physically visiting places

Budget wise:

around 10-15k per person for rent ideally. Don’t really care about luxury and all, bas safe area ho, decent wifi ho and not too depressing 💀

Currently looking at:

- BTM

- HSR outskirts

- Electronic City maybe if budget gets bad

Also thinking about founder houses / hacker houses but idk if they’re actually useful or just startup cosplay 😭

Would genuinely love honest opinions from people already living there:

- Is Bangalore still worth moving to for early stage founders/builders?

- Is PG first and flat later the right move?

- Any areas y’all would recommend?

- Any mistakes first-time Bangalore movers make?

- Anything you wish you knew before shifting?

Would appreciate real advice honestly. I’m excited af but also lowkey stressed about money, surviving there, whether this move even makes sense etc.

Thanks :)

I heard this from someone I know, and it’s been sitting with me ever since.

Last month, she decided to take a solo trip to Ahmedabad. Nothing fancy, just a break from routine, some time alone, exploring a new city. Like most of us, she’d always heard that Ahmedabad is one of the safer cities for women, so it felt like a comfortable choice.

She booked herself into a 5-star hotel in the UsmanPura area and planned to visit a few local spots over a few days.

But on her very first afternoon out, something happened.

A man on a bike slowed down next to her and started asking where she was going. Then it turned into “do you want to come with me?” She ignored him and moved on, but it shook her.

What’s worse is that it didn’t stop there.

For the next three days she was in the city, similar incidents kept happening. Different men, same pattern. Following, asking intrusive questions, making her feel watched and uncomfortable. Nothing physically violent, but persistent enough that she never felt at ease.

By the second day, she had already stopped going out unless absolutely necessary. Plans to visit places like Manek Chowk? Completely dropped. She mostly stayed inside her hotel. She started ordering food online just to not leave the hotel

She told me that by the time her trip ended, she wasn’t thinking about what she got to see. She was just counting hours until she could leave.

And here’s the part that really hit me.

When she landed back in Delhi, she said she felt relieved. Happy to be back. Safe.

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a woman say that about Delhi before.

This isn’t a post to shame a city. Every place has issues. But it did make me question something we often say so confidently: that Ahmedabad is “safe for women.”

Maybe it generally is. But clearly, that wasn’t her experience.

I’m sharing this because I’m curious has anyone else experienced or noticed something similar? Or was this just a really unfortunate series of incidents?

Because if even one person feels unsafe enough to cut their trip short, that’s something worth talking about.
