Came pre installed on a store bought usb

I bought a new SanDisk 64gb usb yesterday. When I tried to flash an img on it gnome-disk said it was read only so I opened it with a file explorer*.* Its name was tails and it already had folders like EFI and sysLinux, which was very suspicious so I unmounted it. After that it did not work on any port on any device, failing to connect entirely and i returned it to the store as a defective product.

Do I have to worry about viruses?

I am a first year MCA student at MITWPU (huge mistake, I know) and unlike previous batches, we are getting an opportunity to decide which semester will be for internships, 3rd or 4th.

Although choosing the 3rd semester is very restrictive, they probably won't allow us to continue in the same company after the internship because they want us to fulfill our attendance. They are not allowing remote or out of Pune internships either because we still need to attend college events. Between June and December we have to finish a total of 6 months of internship, a job won't count. Even if by some miracle they allow us to continue at the company instead of coming to college in the 4th sem after the internship, they'll be assigning extra coursework and assignments on top of whats already there to cover up for attendance.

4th sem on the other hand will go smoothly, not extra work, no chance of denying placements, no attendance issues, etc. But from what I've heard from a few, better companies are available in the 3rd sem compared to the 4th, and there is lesser competition for them.

From what I have experienced so far, I'm expecting no support, even some resistance from the bullshit faculty (especially our HOD) we have, they are only interested in milking money, so its definitely going to be a lot harder than I think.

My questions are: is it true that there are better opportunities in the odd sem? what is the situation for the normal internships and placements in the even sem? if those are decent too then i see no point is struggling in the odd sem. Anyone with experience specifically from MITWPU?
