“Can you taste the ice cream, ma?” (Question about this scene.)

I’ve watched this series many many times, and I get something new out of it each time. It’s so well written… they do a fantastic job tackling complex relationships and mental health issues. I can’t praise it enough.

I’ve always been a little stumped by one line in this scene. I understand that Beatrice becomes lucid for the first time in the whole episode, just briefly, and actually recognizes Bojack and realizes what her surroundings are. I think it’s so beautifully sad that Bojack sits back down and lulls her back into a pleasant delusion before he leaves her there forever. (He absolutely doesn’t owe her anything after her constant abuse his entire life. He just takes pity.) As he is describing the details to her (“you’re at the lake house, the sky is full of stars, you can hear your brother playing thee piano,” etc.) she seems to ease back into a peaceful dementia fog and seems to see/hear what he’s describing. But when he gets to the part where he says that she’s eating vanilla ice cream and asks “can you taste the ice cream, ma?” She responds with “yes it’s so…. delicious.” with a strange inflection. I’m not sure how to interpret it.

I know she wasn’t allowed to eat ice cream growing up (and potentially never did as an adult?) so she could possibly be pretending to be able to taste it. Is she just pretending to see/hear all the other things Bojack is describing? Is she still lucid for this entire conversation and she’s just playing along? Does the ice cream comment pull her back out of the delusion?

What are your thoughts on this one? (Apologies if this has been posted before.)

My friend’s cat has been having short coughing fits recently.

Muffins has had this little cough for the last few weeks. It kinda sounds like she’s trying to cough up a hairball or something, but nothing ever comes up. She has been getting the cough ~twice a week for the last ~month, and it usually lasts about 30 seconds. Other than this, she is acting completely normally with no other concerning symptoms. He hasn’t rushed her to the vet because it happens so infrequently, last such a short amount of time, and she is acting like herself otherwise.

Some other details about the kitty: she’s about 15-17 years old, but still has a lot of energy! She weighs about 12 lbs, and but lost weight in the last year. (She used to be much heavier.) She is fixed, and eats a diet of 50/50 wet food/dry food. If there is anything else you want to know, just ask! Also, I’m going to try and post a video of her coughing, for reference.

I was solo-camping last summer at Jay Cooke state park in Minnesota. I was on a lovely hike in the woods by myself, hadn’t seen anyone else for hours, enjoying a nice little mushroom trip, connecting with nature and feeling wonderful. Totally at peace with myself and the world. I saw this little structure with benches just off the trail and decided to sit down and rest for a bit. Then I spotted this creepy graffiti on the walls and the vibes completely changed.

All at once I realized I was miles from the trailhead, and totally alone in the forest. My shroomed ass was like “I should NOT be here, this is evil” and I gtfo as fast as I could.

It was almost definitely just some kids’ graffiti, no big deal lol. But under all the circumstances at the time, I was SHOOK. Just wanted to share my creepy experience!
