I found the tool that lets you place a hook thing early but never found double jump. I think even before the hook I got past some ledged by luring and pogoing enemies which probably limit exploration early so you find the jump upgrade. Especially noticable on Uut the Screamer (high laser) and The Absolute Indexer (especially the rocket attack). As a mv veteran this might have been lucky, the simplicity of the bossfights is one of the games weaker points and this made them more interesting to deal with for sure.
