Teaching toddlers tips

Hey! First of all, I've always been against online classes for toddlers due to a lot of reasons but long story short: I need money 🥹

So I ended up accepting 30-minute lessons for a 3 yo boy. He's the sweetest and his mom is always with him but sometimes it's too hard for me to find material and know what to do because his attention span is short (totally normal)

His mom says it's ok if read him some books or just talk to him while he plays with his toys but even so... Sometimes I just run out of things to say.

Do you have any tips? Please don't be judgmental

Question about a physical side effect/symptom (Lower lip tucking/speech difficulty)

Hello everyone,

I am neurotypical, but my mother-in-law has schizophrenia (we are from Brazil). I believe she had a late diagnosis, and she currently experiences some side effects from her treatment. (Unfortunately, I don't know the exact name of the medication she takes).

I want to apologize in advance for any ignorance on my part, I really just want to understand and be as helpful to her as I can.

She has some sort of muscular/speech issue that makes her "tuck in" her lower lip whenever she speaks, and sometimes it makes communication really difficult for her.

I wanted to ask if any of you know what this might be called, if you have ever experienced a symptom or side effect like this, and what kind of doctor she should ideally be seeing to help manage it?

Thank you so much!

My tween student is always bored and complaining. Any advice for online lessons?

Hi, um an ESL teacher from Brazil and I've recently started working at an online school that's meant exclusively for medical professionals. For some reason, however, my boss assigned me a tween boy who is the son of one of our students. We have a pre-set curriculum, so I don't have a lot of flexibility to change the material, but I always try to gamify the lessons to make them more engaging.

I've tried challenging him, changing my tone to be more energetic, you name it. The problem is he is ALWAYS complaining about everything and constantly talks about how much he wants the lesson to end. I've asked him what he would change or how he likes to learn, and all he says is, "I don't know."

I even leveled with him and said: "Dude, you HAVE to be here, right? Will your dad let you quit? No? So let's make the most of it, because I've tried everything and you still don't want to be here."

I talked to his father, who said the kid is just like that about everything in life. I also talked to my boss, who basically admitted the boy is a "handful" and will act like this with any teacher, so I figure my boss just tossed the bomb to me.

What do I do? If I lose this student, it will negatively impact my monthly income, so I can't just drop him. Any tips for surviving these classes?
