[US-CO] [H] Minifigures [W] pricing advice

Hey guys, I was wondering if somebody could help me price out my minifigures. I was looking at BrickLink because one of my friends told me that’s how you check the prices of individual figures, but I’m confused on the difference between new price and used price. What differentiates a figure from used and new besides defects and problems? Does a figure still have to be in its original packaging to be new? or does it just have to be spotless?
