CDL School Only Has Manuals — What Are My Options If I Can’t Master It?
I’m currently in a 6-week CDL school, and we just started driving this week. The school only has manual trucks, so I have to learn the 10-speed if I want to get my CDL without a manual restriction.
I can shift a little, but I’m struggling with the clutch. I really want to learn, and I’m putting everything I have into this. I’m comfortable with the maneuvers, and I feel like I can drive the truck. I’m just worried about mastering the clutch because I don’t get as much time behind the wheel as I’d like.
Originally, I thought I could test in an automatic if I couldn’t get the manual down, but I didn’t realize my school didn’t have one.
Does anyone have any tips for learning the clutch and getting comfortable with a 10-speed? Also, if I can’t master the manual in time, are there any other options for getting my CDL without having to start over?
I’m determined to make this work. I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!
