Just got my CDL; resume help?

Is it recommended to make a new resume? Or do companies hire drivers without giving a crap about previous work experience like warehouse , etc. I’m struggling on how to make a new resume.

Will this affect me getting a job

About a year ago I got in accident and got a minor traffic ticket(only one I’ve ever gotten) and I did the driving course to get it off my record. I come off “court supervision” in October. This was before I had a cdl I just got my cdl with all endorsements except passenger and no restriction. Since this happened before I got my cdl and in a POV will this affect me getting a job?

In PHX, green, want to learn OTR

I need to get my life in order and truck driving has always appealed to me but I'm not sure I'm cut out for it. I drive for a living for Uber and obviously it's quite a bit different but I still like driving and have never really seen the country, seems like a good way to pay off my debts doing something I can somewhat enjoy while doing some traveling. I hope anyway.

My questions - I'm 50, in decent shape, got a knee that gives me trouble sometimes but If I keep it in a brace it's mostly not a problem.

I'm not really a manly man per sé, I'm closer to a twiggish lib cuck (that hates politics) that can barely do a pull up. Heavy physical work is just not an option.

Almost no mechanical knowledge/skills. No dad, loner type (not creepy weirdo, just introverted). Can learn, not a total idiot, just never really did nor had the desire.

3 cats that I'd like to roll with if possible.

Broke for the most part, shitty credit, debt.

Any recs on schools and or companies for my situation would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Who's going to take me straight out of roadmasters truck driving school? I take my state test in a week or so im already done with school. I want over the road no touch freight. Is there other places i can look at besides werner.

I live in the Atlanta georgia area and tight on funds, it seems strange how there like well u need to get your hazmat and tanker to drive for us. Like there trying to just scam u. Who can I find that genuinely cares, and can have me driving soon as possible. Even if i have to drive something smaller im not complaining just dont want to touch freight and willing to be out anytime. I already owe tuition that 12,000$ 17% interest of the original cost of 7,000$. I heard if I pay something they will take the interest off. Im just saying im about to be deep in debt for 5 years for no one to hire me. What did I get myself into?

CA- (Traffic tickets) Will I be able to get a class A CDL with no license / no insurance tickets?

Location: California

Hey guys. I recently gotten tickets for driving with no license and no insurance while omw to work. I was driving a family members car and the tags were expired that’s why I was pulled over then I couldn’t provide my license (all I had was a permit at the time) with no insurance while omw. Got some tickets.

I corrected these both now and waiting for court. Thing is I also want to pursue getting a class A CDL because moneys tight and they pay decently well to catch up on a few bills and schools is really short. I want to know from some experienced people if I can even get my Class A CDL even if I get convicted.
THX IN ADVANCE ! 🙏

New Permit Holder

Just got accepted to go to mega for CDL training and just want to see if there’s any tips to orientation and understanding the working of a truck hands on. I’m usually very good with hands on learning just a tad nervous.

Like what’s orientation like and what’s the chances they send you home without even getting into a truck? I don’t have any record, speed, or health problems but I’ve heard of people getting sent home and never getting to see the inside of a truck.

What’s better? Small 26 Box Truck in NYC or Big CDL truck regional?

My husband drives a 26-foot box truck in NYC for a regional moving company. A typical day involves picking up furniture at one house, dropping it off at another house a few hours away, and then driving back home to NYC around midnight. Sometimes he gets a cross country job but that happens only once a month. He works on a 40% flat-rate commission on all invoices. The company pays for gas-def-hotel stays on overnighters. From his 40% cut, he has to pay a helper to ride with him for the loading and unloading.
He’s been doing this for almost 7 years and clears about $120k a year after everything. He has his own NY state based LLC.

He just got offered a CDL job with a big national company driving their semi trucks solo, running regional routes along the East Coast (Maine to Florida). The starting pay is about the same, but other drivers he knows there are pulling in $150k–$200k a year depending on mileage and routes.

If you had to choose based on your experience, would you stick with the small truck/local and regional moves or go for the CDL with the big commercial semis?

Is there any hope for me?

I got into an accident in my personal vehicle nearly a year ago, an older gentleman ran a stop sign and smashed right into me, I was found not at fault of the accident BUT at the time I was inbetween jobs and unfortunately couldn’t afford insurance on my vehicle so unfortunately my license was suspended for one year. I talked to the dmv and even got a report stating the reason for the suspension was not because of the accident but because of no insurance. I know I made a stupid mistake and should have had insurance but I just couldn’t afford it at that point in time. I can reinstate my license in December so I was wondering if anyone know if I’ll have a hard time finding a job? Like I said the dmv states my suspension was only for having no insurance not because of the accident, if anyone has any knowledge or experience a situation similar to mine please share it with me

Update: just wanna let everyone know I already have my CDL

How much will a DUI from last year impact my ability to work as a commercial driver

I am currently unemployed. I have a DUI that is a little less than a year old. I also have an accident on my 5 year history (but not 3 year) and a ticket for going 73 in a 45mph zone. Other than that, my driving record is spotless. Will most companies overlook the DUI?

Anything other than OTR possible?

I just finished my first day of CDL school today. Just wondering if it's any possibility of getting into a local gig or even regional as long as I can be home daily. I'm on PTI(Probation pretty much) for an incident about 2 years ago(Not driving related. I got into a fight with my brother). I have to report twice a month and even though I can get it terminated early in a couple months, I still have a little more than a year and a half of it. Also I'm just not too fond of the OTR lifestyle. I'll even do a CDL B job. Anything is better than my current financial situation working at a fast food restaurant. I live in the South Jersey/Philly area if that helps

How to shift going up hill

Just got my first job hauling logs in a KW with a 13 speed. I think I’ve gotten pretty good at shifting and I’ve been going down mountains fully loaded with no problems. It’s going up hill is my problem. Every time the rpms drop I try to downshift I miss the gear. I’m getting so pissed off

Advice for class B CDL.

I just turned 18 a few months ago and just got my Class B CDL permit. I will be working as a school bus driver full time, and a dump truck driver for a construction company part time. I’m looking for any general advice that will help me. Down the road once I get more saved up I’d love to go for my class a, I was able to get this class b for free so I thought it’d be a good starting point. Thanks in advance.

Failed my CDL A test because of a faulty truck.

I live in FL and on Friday took my CDL test, I passed the pre trip section easily and when I did my maneuvers I failed on the last one (the angle). The truck I tested in had severe power steering issues to the point I was using all my strength just to turn the wheel, even when letting off the brake it didn’t change anything. I have to wait till this Wednesday to take it again but all weekend I’ve been feeling like I got cheated out of taking the test properly. Should I try to appeal this with the school I’m at or take it to a state level? Thanks.

Which companies allow labradors as travel companions?

Hello everyone. I'm going to be starting school in July and will be finished by September. By that point, I'll be looking for employment to gain some experience. I am not concerned about OTR nor am I concerned about being home. What I am concerned about, however, is my labrador. I will need to bring her with me. She weighs around 65lbs, give or take.

Which companies allow me to bring her with me?

Should I get a CDL for job security

I know this question is all over the place, but I just wanted to ask for my situation. I’m a 20m who’s a little directionless (big surprise). I’ll be honest the long distance or otr trucking side of having a cdl doesn’t interest me a whole lot, but I have been interested in the bussing and transportation side of things, as well as other fields. I don’t know what to do for my future.. I don’t think I’d say this would be something I’d want to do forever, but would it be a logically good idea to get a cdl to expand my job market if the need arises, or to have a better job while still exploring my passion in other areas? By all means tell me if I’m being naive too.
