The Ohio meme was revitalized via psyop and algo manipulation to dissuade discussion of the East Palestine train crash

I only have my own perspective to speak on this, but I’ll put it in bullet points to communicate why I feel this way.

•late January 2023: the Ohio meme, generally, is on a downturn. Still relevant, but most posts I saw on it were ironic or mocking the meme.

•February 3rd 2023: the east Palestine, Ohio train derailment occurs. Poisonous cargo spills into the air of the 25,000 person town, blame is quickly found to be caused by lack of train regulation upkeep.

•one week after derailment: if memory serves correct, this is when the train operator’s union (or at least Ohio’s) is legally dissolved by the federal government despite the company being where the corner cutting came from, and when shown relief/compensation to residents is going to be minimal.

•the next week after derailment: suddenly, Ohio memes are back in full force. Algorithms push content that either include genuine or post-ironic Ohio memes during a time when calls for action were gaining popularity. Within a month of this occurrence, all calls for action are effectively snuffed out, and Ohio gains a Florida-like reputation both for its boring reality and the strange happenings that occur within, fantastical or real.

A thought I’ve been having, not super serious tho

Before anyone says it, I don’t think Jax was a good person, Jax was obviously shitty to people. What I’m saying is that people are just weirdly violent about it sometimes. Yes, emotional and verbal abuse are bad, obviously, but these people probably don’t keep the same energy for every franchise, and that kinda irks me. I’m not speaking of anyone in specific bc I’m kinda avoiding fandom stuff, but statistically some Jax haters who hate them on moral grounds likely have a favorite villain who, probably, did far worse shit than be an asshole to like 8 people.

ETA: just to make it clear, this isn’t a “if you hate Jax you’re wrong” thing, it’s more pointed at people who claim moral superiority for hating Jax and treating other people like shit for enjoying the finale/jax’s stuff.
“I don’t like Jax because he was mean” = valid!
“I don’t like Jax, and if you relate to him you’re horrible”/“Im glad Jax abstracted, he deserved it” = a little more on the invalid side
