Thoughts on focusrite octepre MK2?

I have the option to buy one and I'm thinking of adding it to my SSL12 for an extra 8 inputs. Does anyone have any thoughts on the octepre MK2?

Using Novation controllers to control Windows apps, shortcuts and volume

I’ve been developing a Windows app that lets MIDI controllers do more outside of a DAW, and I thought it might be relevant here for people using Novation controllers like Launchkey, Launchpad or Launch Control. It's been a few years in the making.

The idea is to use a MIDI controller as a physical control surface for Windows, apps, shortcuts, macros and volume, rather than only using it inside music software.

A few examples of what it can do:

  • control system volume or specific app volume with knobs, faders or encoders
  • assign pads/buttons to keyboard shortcuts, macros, scrolling or app actions
  • use encoders for repeated actions or volume changes
  • switch between presets for different apps or workflows
  • use LED feedback where the controller supports it
  • keep different setups for creative apps, browsers, video tools, volume control, shortcuts and repetitive tasks when not working in a DAW

So a Launchkey, Launchpad or Launch Control could still work as a normal music controller, but also become a shortcut/macro/volume controller for Windows when you’re not working in a DAW.

Would anyone here find this useful for getting more out of a Novation controller outside music software?

Using Behringer X-Touch One and X-Touch for controlling Windows and apps

I’ve been developing an app to make MIDI controllers like the X-Touch One and X-Touch more useful outside of a DAW, especially for controlling Windows, apps, shortcuts, macros and volume. It's been a few years in the making.

Here are a few examples of what it can do:

* controlling system volume or specific app volume with the fader, encoder or jog wheel

* assigning buttons to keyboard shortcuts, macros, scrolling or app actions

* using the jog wheel/encoders for repeated actions or volume changes

* switching between presets for different apps or workflows

* LCD feedback

* motorised fader feedback

* LED feedback for mapped buttons

The idea is that an X-Touch can still work as a music controller, but it can also become a physical control surface for Windows, creative apps, browsers, video tools, volume control, shortcuts and repetitive tasks when not working in a DAW.

Would anyone else find this useful for getting more out of an X-Touch or MIDI controller outside of a DAW?

Your MIDI device can do a lot more than just control your DAW.

I've made the free version of MIDI Command Studio available for Windows, allowing MIDI controllers to be used for shortcuts, macros, volume control and other everyday tasks.

The free version is intended to be fully usable in its own right.

This post is for ideas and feedback, so I'd be interested to know what people would want their MIDI hardware to do outside a DAW.
