My experience with a toxic work culture — sharing this so people know what they may be getting into
I have been thinking for a long time about whether I should write this, but I genuinely feel that people who are considering joining this company deserve to know about my experience.
When I initially joined, everything seemed completely normal. I was excited to start working and had no reason to believe that the work environment would become so different over time.
But after some months, I started noticing things that were extremely difficult to deal with.
The work culture became very restrictive. Employees were discouraged from talking to people from other departments, and even normal professional interactions sometimes felt like a problem. Instead of building teamwork and communication, the environment started feeling controlled and uncomfortable.
After around six months, the pressure increased significantly. Employees were constantly pressured about performance and were made to feel that their jobs could be at risk if they didn't meet expectations.
What frustrated me even more was the incentive situation. Employees were expected to deliver results and generate business for the company, but when those results were achieved, the incentives that employees were expecting were not provided as promised.
At some point, you have to ask: if employees are expected to give their best and contribute to the company's growth, shouldn't the company also respect the commitments made to those employees?
Another thing that surprised me was the difference between how the company presents itself and what the actual working environment feels like. The company may present itself as a large, established organization, but from my experience, it operates more like a very small startup with a limited team.
I am not writing this to attack any individual employee or manager. I am sharing my personal experience because I don't want new employees to join without knowing what they might be walking into.
If you are considering joining this company, please do your research, speak to current/former employees, and get salary, incentives, responsibilities and other commitments clearly documented before joining.
There are many more things I could mention, but I wanted to start with these points.
This is my personal experience and opinion based on what I experienced while working there.
