Effects of AI on the mental health of young adults?
I have questions about AI usage and its effects on young adults for a research paper for school.
Hi! Im not sure if this is allowed but I have a research paper for a college class coming up soon. The class is online but we are told to interview people in fields related to our chosen subjects. If anyone has time to answer a few questions I would really appreciate the help!
The paper is about how the sycohpantic behavior of generative AI models, particularly ChatGPT, pose a risk to the mental health of young adults about age 15 - 22 who's brains and view of the world are not yet fully formed.
What risks are unique to conversational AI compared with earlier internet technologies?
Do you have any concerns about young adults using AI? If so what are they?
How do you think AI use could impact a young person's critical thinking skills, problem solving skills, and/or social development?
What personality traits make someone more vulnerable to negative effects of communicating with AI?
What signs would you look for to indicate that someone has an unhealthy attachment or use of AI?
How do AI conversations differ psychologically from conversations with a friend or parent?
From your standpoint what kind of gaps do we have in knowledge pertaining to AI affects on young adults mental health?
You can answer as many or as little as you like, and any other input you might have on the subject or recommendations for articles for me to look into are very much appreciated.
Thank you in advance for any help!
