How long did it take to schedule a surgery

I'm getting an MRI Anthrogram, but I am like 95% certain I have a labrum tear. I want to get surgery as soon as possible, and so im wondering how long it took the vast majority to schedule an actual surgery.

I feel like such a fraud

I had the chance to speak with the manager, who also recruits, and it felt like I wasn't even moving the needle.

I know I'm an awkward person, so I made bullet points on what I wanted to talk about—my club, research, and a few other things. I feel like I was just yapping and yapping without actually saying anything original or exciting. It felt like I was some high-pitched, annoying little kid while the manager, who had agreed to meet with me, had to sit through my bullshit.

I knew I was running out of things to say about the club, so I switched over to talking about my research. That actually got the conversation rolling a bit more, but then the Zoom call ended while I was mid-sentence because of the damn paywall. They sent a warm email afterward saying they understood what happened, that it was all good, and that they'd like to talk to the research team if given the chance.

I had already submitted an application to their company, but I didn't want to mention it because I genuinely just wanted to talk, not make it seem like I was trying to leverage the conversation into a job. I don't know what I'm trying to say. Maybe I'm just trying to find a silver lining. I don't know.

How to properly use family connections

My grandfather, whom my family and I are very close to, works in a niche area of the tech industry that I'm also extremely interested in at a very prominent company. As we all know, breaking into software engineering—or tech in general—is incredibly competitive, and networking is often one of the best ways to land internships and full time roles.

I've realized that I have someone in my immediate network who's already established in the exact industry I want to pursue. How can I leverage that relationship appropriately without coming across as someone who's just trying to use him? That's my biggest concern.

I know it's not as simple as asking for a job, but what are some good ways to get my foot in the door? Should I be asking for career advice, introductions, resume feedback, or something else?

I'd appreciate any advice from people who've been in a similar situation.

Labrum surgery

Basically, I dislocated my shoulder in January, which most likely caused a labrum tear. I did PT for a couple of months, but I feel like it will never be the same without surgery.

I've been out of PT for the entire semester in hopes that it would recover on its own, but my shoulder still isn't 100%. I contract in August as a sophomore, and while I'm definitely able to pass every event, I'm worried about what the future holds for my shoulder.

I want to get labrum surgery so I don't have to keep dealing with this issue, but recovery takes roughly 3–6 months before returning to light workouts and 9–12 months before full, unrestricted training. I'm wondering what that would look like from an ROTC standpoint. If I get the surgery as soon as I'm contracted, I should be able to start PT and rehab during the following semester (I'll already be abroad during the fall semester). How would that affect my status and training timeline? Mainly asking for those who went through similar issues.

Normal shoulder?

Dislocated my shoulder in January. Strictly have not touched weights until about 2 weeks ago. I was also doing PT for the 3-4 months in-between. It looks weird, im not sure if this is normal.

Doesn't reallt feel like it will pop out of place, but I do hear " cracking " like in the same way you crack your knuckles, when I move it sometimes. Then it goes away

How to make the most out of being a research assistant

To start, I am currently a freshman, and I am greatly fortunate and even more privileged to be apart of a research project funded by a triple letter agency with my uni researching LLM's and how it could be used agentically to detect flaws in certain security weaknesses.

Though, I feel like most of the tasks I am given is comprised of delegating the work to AI. I understand the concepts of what we are doing, but I feel as if there is more of an emphasis on shipping out material rather than deeply understanding the code and the *why* on a low level. Simply, it feels kinda easier than it should - especially as a freshman.

It makes me wonder how I can really use this opportunity as a stepping stone towards future internships or research roles I may be interested in, as I feel like theres not enough I am doing to make my work meaningful.

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

4+1 Masters Question

Would it be possible to get an extension of benefits to pursue a masters program that would take one extra year? And if so, would it incur an ADSO?

For context, I would take 12 credits of grad classes total as a Senior, then I would finish the remaining 18 the next year.

I was told by a tour guide that this would be possible, and ive heard of people getting extension of benefits for a 5th year at my school before.

I worked my butt for a B, but I am not angry. I am happy I got through it. From withdrawaling last semester, I thought I was never capable of doing math at that level, but I am glad I did(also my professor was a goat)

I am however a bit sad that even though I scored 90+ on all 3 exams, I got anxiety on the final and it dropped my grade from an A- to a B, especially considering all the office hours, studying, and completing every assignment I have put effort towards. The 2 hours absolutely flew by.

I will now be taking calc II over the summer, and so i ask: what advice would anybody give for somebody in my shoes? I have no insightful questions, I just don't want to feel as heartbroken as I do now again.

Also my GPA will drop to a 4.0 to a 3.5-3.6, and its only my freshman year.

I have been in touch with one recruiter for a pretty long time at a local tech company, and I believe its possible to land an interview given a few keyword changes on my Resumé. They were very intrigued with my project, and reached out to me first regarding internship opportunities.

However, I don't know how much I know. I am not a master with Linux commands, nor C, nor assembly, but its all desired skills. I am just not sure if I would make it to an interview, then flunk it because I overestimate how much I know.

Should I wait to apply and improve on these skills, or just send it and apply anyways?
