Bettas Need a New Home!

If anyone is looking for a betta, I have 2 that need to be re-homed. They were a foster situation and I can’t keep taking care of them plus my 2. The person who was adopting them backed out.

I have tanks and most supplies for them. I really want them to be in a good home with someone who has the time to take care of them. For medical reasons I am finding it very hard to do what is needed for them. They are healthy and happy! Their current tank is a 23.4 gallon split, but I have separate new tanks 10.9 nanos for each. Currently running their new sponge filters in my established tanks to start cycling their new tanks. Their mates are bladder snails and mystery snails.

If interested please reply. Thanks!

Tanks, Bettas, Mystery Snails, best offers!

Hey all, new here. Took in 2 bettas early this year to foster. Saved them from a pretty bad situation and now I need to find them a new home. I have them in a 23.4 gallon Tideline tank. I was planning on splitting them up into their own 10.9 gallon nano Tideline tanks, but if you want the set up as is I will most definitely sell you that.

If you want them split up, I can sell you the set up for the nanos. They each will have Hygger heaters, and sponge filters.

I also have a 23.4 empty tank for sale, with an AquaLife S60 light.

I paid a hefty price for all equipment, but I will take a reasonable offer. I’m more concerned on these guys going to a good home!

How to decontaminate from NZMS

I have recently learned more than I have ever wanted to know about NZMS. I reached out to the contact person in the gov website who is handling some sort of containment protocol for these horrible creatures, and this is what I got back:

Should you need to decontaminate your aquarium, here is some instruction:

  1. Do not dump anything outside.

Do not pour water into a yard, storm drain, pond, ditch, creek, or street gutter. Pour aquarium water only into a toilet or sanitary sewer drain.

  1. Remove animals and quarantine them.

If there are fish or other animals you plan to keep, move them to a separate container using clean water. Do not give away, sell, or release any plants, snails, substrate, or animals from the tank until you are confident they are free of hitchhikers.

  1. Throw away high-risk porous materials.

Gravel, sand, soil, or aquascaping substrate
Filter media, sponges, floss, bio-balls, ceramic rings, Live plants, moss, driftwood, porous rock, botanicals, Snail traps, nets, tubing, or anything hard to inspect
Double-bag these items and put them in the trash. For extra caution, freeze the sealed bag first.

  1. Decontaminate the empty tank and hard equipment.

For glass/acrylic tank walls, heaters, hard plastic parts, and nonporous decor, use one of these:

Best physical options
Hot water: Soak or flush with water at least 120°F / 46°C for 10 minutes; some protocols use 140°F / 60°C for 5 minutes.
Freezing: Freeze small items for at least 4–8 hours depending on the protocol; USGS cites at least 6 hours, while other guidance uses 4 hours at or below 26°F or 8 hours at colder temperatures.
Drying: Dry completely. Guidance commonly recommends at least 48 hours, with the item totally dry before reuse.

Chemical option
A quaternary ammonium disinfectant, such as Formula 409 Degreaser Disinfectant diluted 1:1 with water, is cited by USGS for gear decontamination.
Rinse very thoroughly afterward, then let everything dry completely. Quat residues can be toxic to aquarium animals, so I would only use this on hard, nonporous equipment and would rinse/dechlorinate/dry aggressively before reuse.

NZMS Isolation for Bettas!

Hello all. Dealing with NZMS. For those that have been through this and took their bettas out of their current tanks to move them to new ones, how long do I need to quarantine them in a bowl? I plan to hopefully let them poop and then take that out of there and dispose of it properly. Just in case they happened to accidentally eat an NZMS and passed it. This is a nightmare but gave me a chance to do a new scape. I’ll post old vs new.

Mystery snail is dying…

So I noticed Friday evening that Mr. Snuffleupagus was not moving much. Saturday he continued to hang out in the same spot. I took him out of the tank and he responded when I tried to touch his operculum, but I placed an algae wafer piece in front of him and there was little reaction. That’s this video from Saturday. Yesterday and today he hasn’t budged. I took him out just now to smell him and he was hanging out of his shell a little. I did the touch test and this time I was able to touch his operculum much longer before he even reacted. He did however react finally and very very slowly but he closed up. Is he dying? This is the tank with the NZMS. Water parameters per API are perfect. Nothing else has changed. Last month my ramshorn died suddenly. Again, water was fine. My bettas have been fine and Lelu on the other side of this tank seems fine.

Can I save my snail!?

Looking for new housing suggestions…🙏🏼

Hello all. I have fallen victim to the awful NZMS. I will be rehoming my 4 bettas and 2 mysteries and some bladder snails I recently found. Looking for suggestions for 10 gallon tanks. I love the look of the long bookshelf tanks. Currently looking at water box aquariums and Aqua Zen tanks from Chewy.com. I appreciate any helpful suggestions! Thank you so much!

Oh and if you have any experience in tank sterilization or reverse respiration I would love some help. Thank you in advance.

The most important thing is to save Lady Gaga, Prince, Jekyll, Hyde (all pictured), and Mr. Snuffleupagus, and Lelu, my 2 MS. These are 23.4 gallon splits so I think they will be perfectly happy in their own 10 gallons. Any help is so appreciated. 🙏🏼

NZM

So now that I think this is what I have, how big do these get? This guy is a monster. I found these in my other tanks. Varying sizes. Biggest one has to be close to 8-9mm.

Snail Identification

Found these guys in my bettas tanks; here is another video of another one on the other side of my tank.

Snail Identification

I have had this tank for 9 months. Got a new tank a few months back and bought some new plants at my LFS. Now, about 2-3 months later, I see these guys…are they bladder snails? I also see a bunch of little specks on my glass. I didn’t realize they were snails and I’ve been taking them out thinking by they were rocks drug up by the mystery snails on the glass. Do I need to worry?

Adjustable Bed Frame

Hi everyone, decided I would post today to help anyone else that could benefit from this. I was a few days ago old, when I read about sleeping in zero gravity position if you have an adjustable base. I am newly diagnosed in 2025, and some nights the hip, neck, and wrist pain is so significant that it completely interrupts my sleep.

Well…I discovered the ZG button on my remote. I have had this adjustable base for years but we really haven’t used it much. So I read about all the benefits and tried it for a week.

The results have been, less, if any hip pain while trying to fall asleep, less neck, wrist, shoulder pain. I feel like I am reaching deeper sleep and I am waking up feeling more rested than I ever have. Thank goodness my husband is on board with sleeping in this position. When I told him I had tried it and I asked him if he would mind trying it, his first question was “did it help your pain?” I said “it really did!” So he said he would gladly sleep in a crunched position for me. I’m pretty sure I fell in love with him all over again at that moment.

Anyhow; if you have an adjustable bed frame, and you haven’t used your ZG, try it, it might offer some relief on those achy gnawing joints! Happy Friday! 😁
