What machine to buy?

I already have 2 Addi machines, the 22 needle and the 46 needle. I recently purchased an Erlbacher circular sock machine. I have been giving some thought into buying a flat knitting machine, but I have no idea where to start. Any advice would be welcomed.

My thoughts are: I would definitely like a garter carriage and a ribber; I would be making mostly sweaters, vests, and scarfs; appropriate for a size 2 or 3 yarn; possibly capable of fair isle colorwork.

This is mildly infuriating

This is more like a rant, take that info as you will. Last week at my appointment with my primary physician, I brought up a real desire to quit smoking. Between 2008 and 2017 I went through Chantix FOUR times. Each time I started smoking within days of finishing the medication. I have tried everything I can think of: cold turkey, nicotine gum, nicotine patches, sleep hypnosis, and medication. So far nothing has worked. Open heart surgery did not help me quit. Breast cancer did not give me incentive to quit. So my doctor prescribed Wellbutrin. I picked it up Friday and started taking it Saturday morning. I saw my oncologist yesterday. I spoke to her about quitting smoking, too. Turns out that Wellbutrin prevents tamoxifen from doing its job. Now I’m back to square one! My choice is either switch back to anastrozole or stop taking the Wellbutrin. Six months ago we switched me from anastrozole to tamoxifen because of the fractured vertebrae from the osteoporosis. Anastrozole was making the osteoporosis worse. My back is finally healing, the side effects are easier to manage. I’m only 52, I’m too young to have this many health issues!

Hand dyeing heathered yarn?

I have a project in mind that requires specific colors that are not commercially available anymore. One of the colors is a heathered brown. Is there a way to acheive this color with bare yarn that is already spun? I know that the easiest way is to dye the wool before spinning and have a few variations in color, but I have never spun yarn before.

Is decorating something you don’t forget how to do?

I worked as a cake decorator well over a decade ago. I haven’t decorated a cake since 2014. My son is getting married next month and has asked me to make the cake. Is cake decorating something you remember how to do? Would I still have the skills? Should I practice between now and then? I’m starting to have doubts about my skills.
