Fighting Hobo FOMO with my rings

It’s Hobonichi season and the Hobo FOMO is real. I love the revealed collaborations so much, but I’m a rings planner person - so instead of buying covers I won’t use, I’m turning my favorite collab designs into dashboards. That’s the beauty of rings: if I love something, I can find a way to bring it into my planner.

I've been using my MeePlus Personal binder as my EDC for a bit now, and I couldn't be more infatuated with this little thing!

I originally planned for it to serve a very specific purpose, but that plan lasted maybe a day - I just couldn't help myself and started using it for everything. The 16mm rings are surprisingly spacious, and the build quality is simply outstanding. I don't worry about tossing it into my purse or carrying it in my coat pocket next to my keys. It feels durable and well-made, which makes it easy to actually use without being precious about it.

One of my favorite aspects is the customization. I chose gold rings and backplate, Cognac Pueblo leather, and it truly feels like mine. I think you can even get an engraving on the backplate.

A few details that really stood out to me:

  • The backplate edges are smoothed out, which I really appreciate when carrying it in a bag or pocket
  • The leather edge finishing is very well done
  • I love having the option to choose 16mm rings along with leather type and color
  • The design is completely minimal, with no visible branding. The only branding I noticed was on the leather ring protector piece. It came with the binder, but I’m not using it because I’m actually excited to see the “ribs” of the rings emboss into the cover
  • I also picked up the insert with the elastic strap and wide pen holder - it’s such a smart design. Space is limited in slim binders, so combining both functions into one insert is a huge win

Overall, I'm really impressed with both the quality and usability of this binder. It just works, and I find myself reaching for it constantly. It's like a comfort blanket in my daily life.

Curious to hear from other owners of slim binders and how you make them work, especially as "everything" books. I'm sure I'll have to archive a bit more often.
