CSR $300 Travel Credit Strategy

CSR’s $300 travel credit is the easiest card benefit - no portal requirement, no activation, no hoops to jump through. Just charge a travel related expense and it is automatically credited.

However, it is beneficial to plan which expenses will receive the credit. Why? Because you do not earn UR points on the $300 credit. Given the UR multiplier for different categories, you could lose out on UR points.

Example, got an upcoming trip and you have not used the travel credit - purchase 1x travel items first (museum tickets, train tickets, tours, etc.). When you have charged over $300, then book air and hotels. That way you will receive the 4x or 8x (depending on if using portal) UR points.

I didn’t think of this my first year with the CSR but I did this year. Hope this is helpful.

The Edit Omni Hotel OKC Stay

Let me share my experience booking with Chase Travel and staying at an Edit hotel.

In December, I booked a 2-night stay at the Omni Hotel OKC to use the $250 credit before it expired at the end of the year. I also used a $150 StubHub credit to see Journey in OKC. The show was AWESOME, but I digress...

The reservation appeared in my Omni Select Guest app. When we arrived, we were able to check in early. The hotel was booked because of a big NBA game, but our room was on a higher floor and was clean, spacious, and comfortable. We were given a welcome letter explaining our Edit benefits. The welcome amenity was 2 free drink coupons to use at one of the bars during our stay.

Each morning, we had breakfast, which we charged directly to the room. Upon checkout, the breakfast fees had been removed. The $100 property credit was easy to use - drinks at the bar and lunch one day, charged to the room, were automatically credited before checkout. It was clearly stated that tips were not included in the credit. We were offered late checkout, but did not need it.

Total cost was just over $700 (including tax & fees) - $250 Edit credit. Paid the balance in points (point boost was 2cpp). Used the $100 property credit & enjoyed breakfasts. And of course, walking across the street to the concert venue to see a great show - priceless. 😄
