Xtool M2 3w Ir laser module

So i just got the m2 3w laser module. Did a little testing on some 3d printed pucks. Im impressed by the way it engrave on them. What else should I try? What has anyone else used it on? Would love to see what people have done with it.

How xTool Opened a New Door for My Creativity

After becoming comfortable with 3D printing and designing models almost every day, I thought I had a good understanding of what it meant to be a maker. Then the xTool M2 entered my studio and reminded me how much there is still to learn.

With 3D printing, I am an experienced user. I understand supports, clearances, materials, failed prints, and the fact that most problems are usually user error. With laser work, I am still a beginner, which has made the experience feel new and exciting again.

The M2 opened my eyes to a completely different creative process. Instead of building an object layer by layer, I can cut, engrave, add color, personalize surfaces, and work with materials such as wood, acrylic, coated metal, glass, paper, and fabric.

One feature that has stood out to me is print-then-cut. Being able to print artwork and then accurately cut around it creates many possibilities for signs, decorations, labels, custom gifts, and other crafted items. It allows me to add detailed color and clean shapes without needing every part of the project to be 3D printed.

The xTool software has also helped make the transition easier. As someone new to laser work, I expected the learning curve to be much more intimidating. I still have plenty to learn about settings, materials, positioning, and testing, but the software has helped me get started and turn ideas into finished projects much sooner than I expected.

The experience has not been perfect. The infrared laser was not available when the machine was released, which limits certain types of metal and plastic marking unless an additional module is added later. Laser work also requires testing because materials do not always react the way you expect. A setting that works perfectly on one piece may produce a completely different result on another.

That learning process is part of the experience. I have already created engraved cups, signs, printed and cut designs, personalized projects, and items that combine laser work with my 3D-printed designs. Some projects have worked immediately, while others have produced a growing collection of test pieces that seemed like good ideas at the time.

Compared with 3D printing, the M2 provides a different kind of value. A 3D printer is an affordable way for consumers to create physical objects, while the M2 combines several creative processes in one machine. For beginners and home creators, that makes it a cost-effective way to explore laser cutting, engraving, color printing, and personalized crafting without needing separate machines for every process.

The M2 has not replaced my 3D printers. It has expanded what I can create and what Millin3dStudio can become. It has given me new ways to combine fabrication, design, color, engraving, and 3D printing into projects that would not have been possible for me before.

I am still at the beginning of my laser journey, and that is what makes it exciting. I cannot wait to continue learning, share more real projects, and explore future endeavors with xTool to see where this new creative medium takes me.

From Award-Winning 3D Designer to Laser Maker: How the xTool M2 Opened a New Creative World

As an award-winning 3D designer, I'm used to looking at every object and immediately thinking, "How can I make this cooler?" When I first stepped into the laser maker space with the xTool M2, I expected a steep learning curve. After all, designing for 3D printing and working with lasers are two very different worlds. Full disclosure XTOOL was nice enough to give me to play with to see what I can come up with and create as apart of there program but I am giving my honest feedback on my experience so far and not being paid or told what to say.

What I didn't expect was how quickly the xTool M2 made me feel at home.

The xTool M2 is one of those machines that seems determined to keep you creating instead of spending hours buried in manuals and tutorials. Between the laser capabilities, rotary attachment, and CMYK inkjet module, it feels less like a single machine and more like an entire workshop sitting on your desk.

As someone who spends most of my time designing and creating, the rotary attachment quickly became one of my favorite features. Tumblers, mugs, bottles, and other round objects suddenly become blank canvases for custom designs. Every time I finish one project, I find myself looking around the room searching for the next thing I can personalize.

Then there's the CMYK inkjet module. Just when you think you've figured out everything the machine can do, it adds another layer of creativity. Being able to combine laser engraving with full-color printing opens the door to projects that simply weren't possible with traditional engraving alone.

What impressed me most, however, was xTool Creative Space. Coming from advanced 3D design software, I'm no stranger to complicated interfaces. XTool Creative Space takes a different approach. The software is laid out in a way that feels approachable from day one. Import a design, position it where you want it, adjust a few settings, and you're ready to create.

For someone new to the laser world, that simplicity matters. Instead of spending weeks learning software, I was spending my time making projects. The cameras, positioning tools, and workflow help remove much of the guesswork, allowing beginners and experienced makers alike to focus on creativity.

The funny thing is that the xTool M2 has created the same problem my 3D printers did: I now see potential projects everywhere. Water bottles become future engravings. Wooden signs become future gifts. Scrap materials become opportunities. My family has stopped asking what I'm making and started asking what I've engraved this week.

As an award-winning 3D designer entering the laser maker space, I expected to learn a new machine. What I didn't expect was to discover an entirely new creative outlet. The xTool M2 made that transition easy, fun, and surprisingly addictive.

Fair warning: ownership of an xTool M2 may result in an uncontrollable urge to personalize everything that isn't moving—and occasionally a few things that are.

🚨 New Toy Acquired! 🚨

🚨 New Toy Acquired! 🚨

When most people bring home groceries, I bring home lasers.

Officially joined the early tester crew for the xTool M2, which means it's time to push buttons, test features, and see how many random ideas I can turn into reality before bedtime.

Will everything go perfectly? Probably not. Will there be sawdust, acrylic scraps, and at least one moment where I say, "I wonder what happens if..."? Absolutely.

Stay tuned as I put this machine through its paces and see what kind of maker magic we can create. 🔥⚡
