Love and Deepspace's fictional Civilisation of Lemuria(it's based of the ancient lore of Lemuria/Atlantis, but Infold/Papergames made significant changes in their own Narrative) needs human sacrifices to keep the flame in the sea god's tomb and the sea god himself alive.
Former sea gods of Lemuria have gained and sacrificed for their followers. Whenever a sea god's reign ends a new one will be reborn and continue the cycle. In Rafayel's case, he mostly resists and tries to avoid killing MC at all costs.
He also gives his own heart to MC, too, and forms the Lemurian bond. However, in the "forgotten sea god" and the "Abysswalker myth," it's implied that Rafayel possibly might kill MC at least one time to rescue Lemuria from perishing.
"Into Our Yesterday" tells the story of the first sea god and his lover to enter Whalefall City. But we don't know if the first sea god's lover differs from his "follower" or if the first sea god even needed a follower as a sacrifice.
Unfortunately, we also don't know if all the other sea gods have had the same eye color as Rafayel or if he's the only one with these kinds of eyes. At least the other ordinary Lemurians have bluish, greenish (Konche and Algie), or greyish eyes (Talia).
The colors in Rafayel's eyes stand for the following metaphors: Lemuria's oceanic civilization (blue/cyan) is built on innocent, betrayed followers' sacrifices and blood (magenta/red)!
However, Rafayel himself doesn't agree with the sea god's ritual. He is willing to risk Lemuria's existence, by avoiding/delaying taking MC's heart. Thus he is also responsible for Lemuria's possible extinction. He doesn't want that either, but he hasn't found a solution yet.
The blue ocean also turned to blood red when Rafayel was a child in the current Linkon arc and EVER attacked Whalefall Acropolis (not to be confused with Whalefall City). Whalefall Acropolis was a rebuilt Exile for Lemurians but much smaller and simpler than Whalefall City.

Like many players, I have used the housing feature since the start for diamond farming and gardening.
It has its pros and cons. The feature that the LIs can make bouquets from the flowers MC plants sounded so cute, I wanted to try it myself. However, Rafayel wasn't having it.
Even inviting him to the flower table only produced lackluster results. So I tried after two months of failure, triggering it actively by removing the bathroom (he could keep his easel) and planting only flowers that were marked with a pink heart and the flame lilies, of course.
I stocked the shared box to the brim with flowers, foliage, and vases, placed three flower tables in the house (one next to his easel, which he only uses), gave him flame lilies, made him smitten, and invited him to the flower table again.
Finally, after that, I got my first bouquet made by him: "Two foliage and one flame-lily". Better than nothing, I thought (the event animation is really cute). I placed it immediately as decoration. After that he started somehow making a bouquet almost every time he was smitten, even when the shared box was quite empty now and didn't have any flowers he liked (he didn't give me the last bouquet personally, calla lilies and foliage, but it was still in the inventory).
Typical Rafayel behavior, starting a new hobby and getting immediately obsessed. But I was so surprised when he even posted about it! Thomas is just like the manager in the movie "Elvis" (2022). Everything Rafayel does, Thomas tries to sell immediately!
I haven't enjoyed and laughed about a video game this much in a long time. It has so many quirky features and glitches that I find something new every day!🤩
