Picked up the Hisense U8 after seeing the RTINGS scores

I spent way too much time reading reviews before buying a new TV, and the Hisense U8 kept showing up near the top of my list. RTINGS gave it an 8.4 for mixed usage, 8.5 for home theater, 8.7 for bright room, 8.3 for gaming, and a 9.2 for brightness, so I was curious if it would actually feel that good in normal use.

After using it for a bit, I get the hype. The first thing I noticed was the brightness. My living room gets a decent amount of daylight, and the U8 still looks clear and punchy without me needing to close everything up. HDR content also looks really good, especially scenes with bright highlights.

Colors are another strong point. Movies and shows look vivid without feeling too fake, and animated content especially looks great. I also game pretty often, and the input feels responsive enough for console gaming. The picture quality in games has been a big upgrade from my old TV.

It is not perfect. RTINGS mentioned that viewing angles are only okay, and I agree. If you sit far off to the side, the image does lose some quality. Direct reflections can also be noticeable depending on where your windows or lamps are. But from my normal couch position, those have not been major issues.

Overall, the U8 has been a really solid buy for me. The RTINGS scores were what pushed me to consider it, but the actual day-to-day experience has matched up pretty well so far.

Every 'smart' thing I've bought ends up in a drawer, will a robot vacuum be different?

I live alone and I've got a graveyard of gadgets that seemed useful for two weeks. Sous-vide stick, a label maker, one of those standing desk converters. All in a cupboard now.

Vacuuming is the chore that slides because no one else is here to care until the floor is visibly bad. So a robot vacuum is tempting in theory. In practice I'm scared it becomes another thing to maintain, app, charge, empty, until I stop bothering.

Looking cheap, under $200, self-emptying if I can get it. The Dreame D20 Air Plus is in that bracket. I don't need it to be clever. I need it to be the rare gadget I don't abandon.

For people on their own in a smaller place, did a robot vacuum actually stay in the routine, or did it join the drawer?

I'm getting so frustrated watching soccer matches on my old TV. When the ball is moving fast across the field, I can barely follow its trajectory, it just turns into a blurry mess. With the World Cup kicking off this June, I really need to upgrade my setup before the tournament starts.

I’ve been looking at the Hisense U7: everyone says its high refresh rate and motion handling are great for sports, and it keeps fast action clear. But then I saw the UR9 with RGB Mini-LED tech, and it sounds like the picture quality is even better, more vibrant colors and sharper details.

Has anyone here used either of these for watching football? Is the UR9’s RGB Mini-LED worth the extra cost over the U7 for tracking fast-moving balls and clear player movements? I don’t want to overspend if the U7 is enough, but I also don’t want to miss out on a better viewing experience. Help me decide!
