Brick pattern FTW!

This was a fun pattern to make. Not overly technical but spent a lot of time finding the right balance number of unique row patterns with randomness to minimize waste. In the end I used 4 different rows patterns for 12x16 boards, 1-1/2” thick.

Shout out to u/MediocreHat1823 for the inspiration

Bricks are walnut, padauk, and cherry. Mortar is maple. Board is finished with Booz Mystery Oil and cheese board is finished with Walrus Oil to see if there was a hue difference.

Bricks are 1.55” x 0.66”, mortar is 0.15”.

Mobile 2-stage dust collector

Limited on space, but needed proper dust collection. I couldn’t find a unit that fit my needs and I have zero wall space available. So I made a cart for the separator.

It finally happened

Well, I've never had a problem running end grain through the planer. I take the measures of rounding over the edges first, and never take more than 1/64" at a time. Boards are always > 1" thick but I had a 1/2" piece I figured I'd roll the bones with.

As the picture shows, 1/2 is much too thin. The cracking, smashing, and shooting of material out the infeed was something else. I don't think I'll do that again.

I was able to salvage the piece. I was making it for a sign anyway, so no worry about a glue seam.
