Always check the guest profile, even if they seem legit!

I’m literally in shock right now. Guest booked for 1 night. Seemed legitimate by our communication; they stated they were coming in town with their kids to visit family which is typical for our area. (How disgusting to lie about having children)

I get a phone call from law enforcement at 2:30am saying an estimated 200 people were at my property and 2 were stabbed!! One with severe injuries.

I go back to check their profile and it’s brand new with no reviews. SMH. I can’t believe I let this one slip through the cracks when I’ve been hosting for 5 years, and know the red flags to look for. The way they were communicating seemed totally normal which is rare for these types of guests.

This is more of a venting session. I don’t have cameras at my properties but this is literally the second time in 1 week I’ve had a party thrown. (Out of 11 STR’s). Will be purchasing cameras immediately. My neighbors are reallyyyy going to hate me.

WWYD? Multiple undisclosed guests and booker is not responding

We received multiple reports from neighbors who have seen a huge amount of cars parked on the street, people entering and exiting frequently, and marijuana smell. Guest only listed 1 adult on reservation. I don’t have cameras on the property unfortunately. I reached out to the guest via message and calls. I’m in contact with Airbnb support, but the guest is not responding to them either.

Should I go to the property at this point? Not sure how to address this situation further.

Day 29 of cycling

I just wanted to say how cool it is to see the progress of fishless cycling a tank! I have painfully waited 29 days for my tank to go through the motions. I’ve finally got to the point where my ammonia and nitrite are 0. Dosing 2ppm ammonia today and hopefully it will process in 24hrs. After it initially reaches 0, how long do you have to wait typically for it to process 2ppm in 24hrs? I’m hoping it will only be one day, but with how this process is testing my patience, I expect it to go something like 72hrs > 48hrs > 24hrs. Can I add fish without waiting for it to hit the 24hr mark? (I’m sure the answer from you guys will be no. Lol).

How do you all feel about water changes at this point? I can’t believe my nitrates are this low. I have a few plants, but haven’t done any top offs or water changes in 29 days.

First pic is my levels today.
Second pic: bottom right is initial ammonia, top left is most recent. So cool to see the (painfully slow) changes!

Is it sketchy to buy an FX4 off marketplace?

I’ve been looking for an FX4 for quite some time. Have been hesitant because it’s so expensive. Recently found one in seemingly good condition on marketplace for $150 and thinking about buying it. I’m slightly nervous because 1. It’s been used for several months. 2. I’ve never owned a canister filter and don’t really know what to look for other than leaks in the hoses and hose connections. 3. Is there such thing as cross contamination between tanks? I know people use cycled media from LFS/other tanks all the time, but my tank is a fishless cycle from scratch and I’m nervous about introducing anything foreign outside of new plants and fish. I hope this makes sense. Let me know if there’s anything specific I should look out for! Thanks in advance

Is it possible to keep discus in hard water?

I’m cycling a 75 gal and dream to have discus, but my tap is pretty hard. I don’t have gh/kh tests, but I know from other local fishkeepers that we have hard water. Tap comes out with a ph of 8.0. I am considering doing half RO/half tap, but I’m not sure how I would keep the ratios consistent during water changes. I already have a standard water filter installed under my sink, but it’s not RO. I don’t really want to waste the installed system and replace it with an RO system, but I guess if it comes to it I will.

Any advice welcome.

HELP! How to unclog/unjam garbage disposal?

I am an Airbnb host and my go-to guy won’t answer the phone. My lovely guests left this wonderful surprise for me, and I have another group arriving in an hour. Asking here while I’m also googling away.

Thanks in advance

Day 17 of cycling. Should I add more ammonia at this point?

I initially added ~2ppm of ammonium chloride on 5/25. I haven’t added any more because I have had positive readings since. Now I’m curious if I should add another 2ppm? I’ve read that letting ammonia get to 0 for a long period can stall or crash the cycle. However, I don’t want to overwhelm the nitrites by adding too much ammonia. My patience is wearing thin! Looking for advice on my next course of action.

Bubbles near seams normal?

Got this 75gal on sale. Filled it for the first time and have been checking for leaks. I’m about 12 hours in and so far so good. All seams feel dry. However, the bubbles near all of the edges are freaking me out. This is my first larger tank and I’ve never noticed the bubbles being so localized. This is an imagitarium tank, and I was not thrilled with the silicone job fresh out of the box. Is this normal?
