Dope vapors are no joke…

I got the third coat of thinned nitrate dope on the wings and I’m pleasantly surprised. This model is a Sterling Aeronca C-3. I tried a light sanding between coats and ended up sanding through the tissue in a few spots. This fuselage is so incredibly odd shaped that it is proving to be difficult to avoid wrinkles. I had read that dope fumes were not to be trifled with. I concur, they are very heavy, much heavier than lacquer thinner. The coats are a bit lumpy. I probably need to thin it more than 50/50 because I live in Arizona and it was already 90 degrees today and will be in the mid 90’s in the next few days. Im guessing that it is drying extra fast. I really like working with dope so far. I have some silkspan to try followed by Koverall. I enjoy experimenting with these old school construction techniques in a world of foam. Deuces ✌️

Spraying tissue with polyurethane…

I have been working on this Sterling Aeronca C-3 for a while. I got some colored tissue from SIG. I used a glue stick on the edges of the wing then after the initial tack, I brushed on a 50/50 glue and water to wrap the edges. Should I go ahead and give it a light coat of polyurethane? I got the spray can stuff, but I also have a pint of the brush on poly. Im interested in trying the poly because it seems like an easier option than using dope. Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Got some SIG stuff today..

When my mother asked me what I wanted for my birthday, naturally I responded “Dope!” I got a little of everything to experiment with. I have a control line airframe to cover, several Guillow’s that need tissue and an RC airframe to cover. I will make some test frames to see how it goes.

Does anyone know of any short how to videos on using Koverall with dope. I would really like to try fabric covering, but the videos I find on YouTube are very long, some hours. I haven’t used nitrate dope or butyrate dope, but Im fairly sure I can get the hang of it. Its very difficult to watch some of these videos go on and on…. Thank you.

Vintage Rainbow Bread door push/pull…

I got this Rainbow bread door pull for $7.99 today. Vintage signs are huge money, extremely expensive. This one appears to be authentic vintage. This may qualify as my best score ever.

I got this machine today. I dont know anything about these, but I have always been intrigued. The person who donated it left a note on it that said the grinder needs serviced. Im confident I can fix it or at least diagnose the problem. It was $19.99 after discount. Its looking like a keeper 😄

Im making significant progress with the Lane Perception coffee table. I have been using an iron over a cotton cloth and a heat gun. They used pages of a calendar from 1971.
