Lengthening shotgun chamber at home

Looking to have the chambers of my 1908 LC Smith lengthened from 2 5/8 to 2 3/4.
Chambers are shiny, bore has haze and slight pitting past forcing cone. Heavyweight barrels so plenty of material.

My options are : leave as is and shoot only handloads or 2.5 inch factory loads
- Get a local gunsmith to lengthen chambers for a few hundred $ - getting close to or exceeding what I bought the gun for
- Order a long forcing cone chamber reamer and do it at home myself for much cheaper, have the tool and skills for future.

Has anyone lengthened a chamber themselves? I am pretty handy, no expert ofc however, but take the time to do work right. Just looking to see what people recommend or advice.

Cheers

1908 Production LC Smith Field Grade - 12g - Heavyweight Barrels

Royal steel Nitro Proofed barrels
Modified and full chokes
Pulled her apart, cleaned and gave the locks some TLC
Had to get cast replacement hammers, and fit these after hammer spurs snapped
Refinished the stock after these pictures also
Light haze and light pitting
2 5/8 chamber
I mostly shoot hand loaded black powder out of her these days.

Replacement hammer for LC Smith. Update

Successfully drilled out, and filed the hammers to fit, before rust bluing. While not perfect, they fit snug and tight. In the future I might buff out the casting imperfections. The left hammer does ‘wiggle’ slightly, but not due to figment of the hammer, the action seems to have some play. Will need to look into it further as I do worry that a good solid hit could maybe cause it to discharge a shell. I did lightly file the hammer face so no pressure rests on the pin, but don’t want to take too much material away until I look into the action first. Lemme know if there are any q’s or any helpful advice you have!

Drill and file new hammers - LC Smith

Had the hammer spur on my LC Smith shear off recently and had some new cast replacements shipped over to me.

I have pretty much got the new hammers into the correct shape through filing (have done further work not shown here)- just have to drill out and file square the new holes to match the square pins. Anyone have tips on:

  1. marking out the centre for my centre-punch to mark.
  2. drilling out the initial hole (have drill press and some small clamps
  3. aligning and scribing the square to be filed. This needs to be pretty dead on so the throw of the hammer strikes the pin correctly without light strikes or protruding too far forward and blocking the pin retracting, or being a risk of going off if the hammer is knocked.
First time ever finishing off parts and a bit nervous tbh.
    Cheers
