1997 Mercedes S300 W140

Just looked at a 1997 Mercedes W140 S300 Turbodiesel today and I honestly can’t stop thinking about it.

The car has around 427,000 km, but it actually looks surprisingly honest and well preserved for the mileage. According to the owner, it was originally a Bulgarian embassy car in Belgium, then bought by a Bulgarian politician/deputy, and he became the 3rd owner after that.

He’s owned it for around 10–12 years and says the car was never his daily driver. Mostly driven during summer and otherwise kept in a garage. He told me that besides regular maintenance, he only remembers replacing the springs and a hydraulic line.

What really stood out to me:
• original interior with very little wear
• no cheap AMG-style mods or “tuning”
• car still sits properly
• paint and panel gaps look good
• overall it feels like a genuine old-school preserved W140, not a flipped car
It’s the OM606 turbo diesel which I know has a legendary reputation for reliability.
The asking price is around 20,000 BGN (~11k USD).

What do you guys think?
Would you consider this a good buy in today’s market for a clean W140, or is the mileage still too risky no matter the history?
