Girl song

I went to beabadoobee on Thursday and it was the best night ever! I’ve been a fan since 2019 and I’ve listened to beatopia (best album ever), fake it flowers, patched up and space cadet bc I used to be really into bea, and then I didn’t rly listen to this is how tomorrow moves that much bc I preferred the older stuff (but going back it’s so good)

Anyways I’ve been going back into her discography and I listened to girl song and omg literally 5 seconds in I started crying and it came out of nowhere? I usually don’t cry to music and I almost have to force myself to cry to music. But it was like a hair trigger or something? Does anyone have a similar reaction???

“Go Ivy or Go Free”

Genuine question — how much of go ivy or go free is cope and how much is actual good advice? I get that some schools are genuinely not worth the full sticker price tuition. But if you can easily afford (KEYWORD EASILY) to go to a good school that’s not necessarily a t20 (because many amazing schools aren’t t20) then is this really good advice? Considering schools like emory, georgetown, BC, UCSD, etc…

College Essay Influencers

Am I the only one who is truly sick of the college counselor essay help influencer epidemic on tiktok? Every video is the exact same thing. “Don’t follow this cliche” “Top 5 mistakes high schoolers make when writing essays” “How to write the first line of your essay” and I’m not saying that this advice is inherently unhelpful or unwelcome or malicious or anything like that. But it’s getting to a point where these adults are basically fearmongering.

The college essay is something that almost every highschool dreads. It’s hard to find a good topic that isn’t incredibly overdone. (Sports, death, injury…) And don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing bad about telling kids what to avoid. But the problem starts when all of a sudden all of these counselors are telling kids what not to write about, claiming that certain things will instantly get them rejected, not just what to avoid. Even going so far as explicitly writing off entire prompts that college board gives students.

I just came across this video by user @/essayswithtara, the title being “I’m not a fan of ‘overcoming a challenge college essays.’ Here’s why:” This random lady doesn’t know everybody’s story or what challenge they overcame. This incredibly general advice is genuinely just not useful because it’s just so unspecific. Not only that, but a panicky junior seeing that video is going to freak out that their essay isn’t unique enough, a fear I personally understand that MANY have.

These adults prey on anxious children who have big dreams of going to amazing and prestigious schools by crushing their dreams and claiming that they are the only ones who have the secret knowledge that can get them into college. That their 12 week college essay course is the only way, and that whatever ideas the students had before this were just not good enough.

The truth is that the common app essay prompts are there to help kids succeed, it’s not like they’re secretly trying to trap kids into writing cliche bullshit that has the purpose of weeding out the dull ones. Maybe I’m just sick of college applications, or maybe I’m sick of influencer culture. But I’m just saying, who are these random and unqualified influencers, and why are we supposed to put stock into what they think?

Disclaimer: Advice is good. I’m all for advice. Yay advice. The problem is when advice becomes “don’t do this or you will instantly be rejected.” This is not about EVERY college admissions influencer.

My dog doesn’t like me :(

My family has a 10 year old chocolate lab. She is a girl and very friendly. She really loves my mom, dad, siblings, and strangers, but she doesn’t really like me as much. I’m usually the one who walks her everyday which she gets really excited for and enjoys, but even though I spend almost the most amount of time with her she doesn’t really like hanging out with me.

Everytime I try and pet her and/or kiss her and stuff she pulls away, which I get so I always leave her alone. She never comes up to me trying to be pet even on days I have left her alone even though she is very affectionate with my mom and sister. I don’t know what to do because I have tried a lot of things to make her like me and tried to give her space but it doesn’t work. I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong. Does anyone have tips? Lmk!

sell my vape?

so i (17) just recently bought a vape off my friend like 5 days ago bc I was curious (stupid, ik.) its a geek w 50k puffs. i have a lot of anxiety though and like the next day after buying it it consumed all my thoughts and i kept worrying and worrying about if i was going to get addicted. then as soon as i got home because i was thinking about it so much i decided to hit it and it made me feel less anxious and quickly realized i was gonna get out of control. like literally not THREE days after getting it i could only think about it and i was getting so anxious and restless! so i decided just quit while im ahead.

the problem is that i spent thirty dollars on it. and i truly do have every intention of quitting, so i was wondering if i should a) throw it out today (friday) and be done with the whole thing or b) sell it to my friend on monday for twenty bucks. i guess what im really asking is which is the better choice?

PSA i understand that the initial decision was very stupid. 0/10 decision making on my behalf. i already feel much better just knowing im selling it.
