I am just on the edge of tears because every baby is officially gaining weight, GOOD Weight 😭❤️‍🩹

I wanted to update everyone who has been following along with this stray mama and her 5 babies.

After monitoring her closely postpartum, I became increasingly concerned because things just didn’t seem right. She had bright red bleeding, abdominal changes, and then her condition started declining. I decided to get a FOURTH opinion and took her back to the vet, and at that point we found out this is much more serious than we initially realized.

After the earlier, Vet at 3:30, they told me just give her a couple days and she’ll be fine. I simply did not agree with that. So I took her to the emergency vet. Initially, they thought it was a UTI. The vet determined that she has a uterine infection (metritis). They also found free fluid in her abdomen around her organs, which is very concerning and means this infection has progressed beyond just a simple postpartum issue.

While at the vet she urinated and pooped, but then she started declining, she became nauseous and looked like she was close to vomiting. (Video attached, sad I know and I’m sorry if it’s too much to share.) They immediately started supportive care with fluids, pain medication, anti-nausea medication, and an injectable antibiotic.

Unfortunately, her milk has completely dried up, and she is no longer able to care for her kittens. The vet has told us she needs her uterus removed (an emergency spay) to treat the source of the infection and give her the best chance of survival. ($4-5k for it to be done tonight, which I was not going to be able to do. So I am going to try and keep her stable until I can get her in which should be in a day or two.)

This means I am now unexpectedly caring for 5 one-week-old kittens completely on my own while also trying to save their mama. They are all being bottle-fed, kept warm, and weighed to make sure they continue gaining.

This has been an emotional and financially overwhelming few days. Of course it’s something that can be expected when taking an a stray, but she has stolen my heart and I hate this for her. I’m doing everything I can for this little family. If anyone would like to help with formula, supplies, vet care, or her upcoming surgery, please message me privately. Absolutely no pressure, even sharing helps.

Please keep this mama in your thoughts. She has been through so much, and we are hoping she pulls through. ❤️

Quick update since a lot of people have been asking about Mama Kitty(Reddit name Bali):

After she had her 5 kittens yesterday, I became concerned she might still have another kitten because I could still feel something in her abdomen, and she also had what looked like another round of labor-like behavior.

To be safe, I had a vet tech come examine her. She said she could feel something as well, but mama doesn't appear to be in distress or showing any signs that would suggest an emergency or that a kitten is stuck. Her recommendation was to continue monitoring her closely and give her some more time rather than rushing into intervention.

Right now, Mama Kitty is bright, alert, eating, drinking, nursing all five kittens, and taking good care of them. I haven't seen any concerning signs since then, so we're continuing to watch her carefully and will seek veterinary care immediately if anything changes or if she begins showing signs of illness or distress.

I really appreciate everyone checking in and caring about her and the babies. I'll keep everyone updated if anything changes.💝
