Airtel 1 Year Roaming Pack

Hi, I have a question regarding Airtel’s 1-year international roaming pack.

I’m currently an Airtel postpaid subscriber on the ₹449/₹499 plan (I don’t remember the exact one). I need a 1-year international roaming plan so I can continue using the same number to make calls back to India. I’m currently based in the UAE, and the local plans here are already quite expensive.

My question is regarding the 1-year roaming plan that Airtel offers for ₹14,999 + taxes on postpaid. Is it a good option to consider? More specifically, is this amount charged on top of my existing ₹499 monthly postpaid bill, or does it replace my current plan charges for the year?

I also noticed that Airtel has a prepaid option for around ₹4,999, which is significantly cheaper. However, it’s not clear whether the included minutes and data reset every month, or whether it’s a one-time allocation for the entire validity period.

Would appreciate some clarity on this. Thanks.

Savings and Investments - India

Recently moved to the UAE. It’s been 4 months now, after 16 years of working in India. The move has been exciting, but it’s also opened up a whole new world of financial and banking questions I never had to think about before.
One that’s been on my mind: the NRE/NRO account conversion process.
For those in a similar boat, here’s what I’m trying to figure out:

→ When exactly do I need to make the switch? Is there a grace period, or am I already late?

→ What are the actual repercussions of NOT converting? Is it just a technicality or does it genuinely hurt you?

→ I don’t plan to remit any money back to India at this stage. Do I even need an NRE account right now, or is NRO enough?

→ What happens to my existing stocks in India? Can I continue holding and trading on Indian exchanges as an NRI, or do I need to change something?

→ And mutual funds. Can I keep my existing SIPs running or do I need to stop them and restructure everything once my status changes to NRI?

→ And the big one: if I convert now but decide to move back to India in 2-3 years, how painful is the reversal process? Is it worth doing it now or should I wait?

I’ve been getting mixed signals from different people and the RBI/FEMA language isn’t exactly light reading.
Would love to hear from others who’ve navigated this, especially those who moved to the Gulf after long careers in India. What did you do, what do you wish you’d known earlier, and what would you do differently?

The Dubai dream is on Pause.

I love this country, its people, its resilience, and the royal families, normies who built and continue to run it. They are truly commendable.

That said, I strongly feel that Dubai’s bull run is done, at least for the next one to two years, possibly longer. That is the reality, regardless of what you are hearing or being told. Places feel quiet, footfall is down, the expat crowd has thinned out noticeably, and the cost of everyday commodities is through the roof as if people were not already stretched enough.

And the numbers are backing this up. Dubai’s home price index dropped 5.9% in March, the first decline since 2020, following a 70% surge since the pandemic. Fitch Ratings has predicted a further correction through 2026, with prices potentially falling as much as 15%. Expats, who make up nearly 90% of the workforce, are leaving amid regional conflict and economic uncertainty, and their departures are already hitting consumer spending and business confidence. The Western crowd is not coming back in a hurry.

It is sad to witness, honestly. And the real irony? I just moved here.
