Dog boarding/Pet Sitter

does anyone have recommendations for a pet sitter or dog boarding situation in the sitter’s home? We typically use Wag a Lot for shorter trips but have a week long trip at the end of September and would love our dog to go to a sitter‘s home and possibly have a couple dogs to play with. She does better in that situation where she can lounge in a quieter space & play occassionally vs. the loud, large facilities. Would like someone bonded & insured. Thanks!

youth soccer recs (4 yo)

I've searched here for recommendations, but posts look to be 2+ years old so thought I'd post either way.

My son has never done an organized sport, but has expressed interest in soccer, so I'm looking into it for the fall (I realize I'm probably late for this already). Here are what I know of so far, and I'd love to hear from anyone with experience with any of these:

  • Soccer Shots/Sidekicks: These seem like they'd be the most casual and like...not actually playing soccer - is that accurate?
  • AYSO
  • Inter FC: this seems like the slightly more expensive and serious option? Likely something I'd look into one he decides he actually likes and wants to play longer term.
  • Decatur or Atlanta Parks & Rec

Our son sometimes is hesitant with new things, so I don't want to spend a ton of money knowing we might only make it to half of the practices/games. Appreciate any and all insight/recommendations!

Looking for recs for (2 )adults & (1) 4yo

Hi everyone! My husband and I just booked flights to travel Sept 25-Oct 2 with our 4 year old son. We did our honeymoon in Iceland 10 years ago and are excited to return for a 10 year anniversary trip. For our honeymoon we did most of Ring Road and into Isafjordur which was amazing, but want to use Reykjavik as more of a home base for day trips, with maybe a 1-2 night stay somewhere new and a 1-2 night return to Vik for seeing the beaches and Seljandfoss again + Gljufrabui. So my asks:

  • Any especially family friendly hotels to recommend in Reykjavik or near Vik? We typically like a $250-300/night rate, but can increase a bit for the right place. Kid will ideally have a pullout to sleep on.
  • Any specific sites that might be of interest for a younger kiddo? We have read about the whale museum, but would love any recs even for playgrounds, parks, children's museum, etc. that might make 1-2 of the days even better for him
  • Any other towns/accomodations to recommend within a couple hours of Reykjavik with more of a natural, outdoor setting? I've seen some of the luxury spots (ie Highland Base), but they're really pricey!

Thanks for any help!

4yo straight up refused to go to swim—help?

First ever swim lessons at 4. My son is often a little hesitant with new things but warms up quickly. Well much to my surprise the first lesson went REALLY well yesterday & we praised him, said how fun it was, showed off videos to Dad, etc.

Today when he saw me packing his bag he said he didn’t want to go, he didn’t like it, etc. I tried to talk him through it but he wasn’t really having it so I called in Dad and they talked and he seemed okay. Or at least let it go & off to daycare he went. But at pick up, he immediately ran up for a hug saying he didn’t want to go. I brought him into a restroom to change, in his daycare, and he proceeded to lose it screaming/crying. Refused to put on his swimsuit, or the 2 times I got it on, he immediately kicked it off. We talked to Dad again, tried a bit of bribing and he at least kept the suit on. So I try to get him to the car and end up having to carry him. After 20 min of this we are bound to be late & he’s still upset, but I say I’m going to give him one more chance to choose to go & head that way but he said no, he doesn’t want to swim & he doesn’t want to try. So I turn home and he continues to scream the entire drive home.

I was so frustrated, for the first time that I can remember in my time as a mom, i started crying in the car. The fact that he got to make the call not to go strictly because he said no & I didn’t know what to do … because I was starting to lose my temper… because he said “I don’t want to try!”. It all just made me frustrated & sad! And also, these were expensive lessons and he throws a fit and we simply throw that money away? My husband and I are at a loss on how to handle this. Any thoughts/suggestions? He has one more tomorrow, then 3 more next week but I really don’t think he’ll go! How do I make this not a complete parenting fail?! 😩😩

4 yo doesn’t want to try new things

Looking for any advice or resources (books or shows — Daniel Tiger I’m sure!) for my kiddo as he is becoming resistant to trying new things. He just turned 4 a few weeks ago.

He used to talk about trying soccer, baseball, etc. but a few weeks ago when we were hitting baseballs in the back yard, I said he was doing so well & asked if he’d like to sign up for the fall. he said he didn’t want to do sports. I asked why and he said “because I don’t know how to play” after validating & explaining that it’s practice to learn how to play, he still said he didn’t want to.

Today, I asked if he wanted to go take his new “big bike with pedals” that he asked for for his bday to the park. He said “no, I don’t know how to ride it!” And his dad and I said we wanted to help him learn. He said he didn’t want to learn and that another kid should take the bike 😩 the convo continued for a few minutes. Eventually we went and played outside and used something we hadn’t played with in a while and he said “I’m just trying my best!” so I encouraged that kind of speak and confirmed he was doing great at playing with the newer toy. So I think he definitely just doesn’t want to be bad, but man. Breaks my heart!

He does this with life skills he is still working on too - like putting on socks or other little chores that we introduce him to.

Any thoughts or similar experiences?!
