Bus arrival times?

Does the UGA buses usually run on time? I have class at Park Hall then Cedar Street Building B and only 20 minutes in between. I’m wondering if I should just try and walk it or ride the bus.
The classes are around 10am-12pm and I’m wondering if the buses are on time during that period and how long does it take to ride from one to the other.

Student football ticket request?

Is there any way to cancel my ticket request? I know there’s no refunds for student tickets but since they haven’t determined the ticket allocations and didn’t charge my credit card yet, could I cancel my request?

Edit: Gonna add that I’m not a football or sports person at all 😭 like no interest and it’s really too overstimulating to me and I didn’t realize it was for game tickets and I thought it was like a lottery for smth else so I entered. Ofc I’m gonna go if there is not option/way of cancelling but I don’t really want it

Freshman welcome vs first night?

Is the freshman welcome worth going to, or would I be okay just going to First Night?

I’m really not an outdoor person, and after being in the sun so much today, my social battery is completely drained 😭 First Night honestly sounds way more fun and manageable to me, so I’d rather save my energy for that. But I don’t want to miss anything important by skipping freshman welcome. I know the Power G photo is a big tradition and lots of people love it, but it’s not really on my list to do

For anyone who’s been before, would I be missing out on much?

When do classes get added to eLC?

Hi, freshman here! I’m registered for 5 classes, but only 1 is showing up on eLC right now. Is this normal, or should I contact someone?

Also, if my other classes aren’t showing up on eLC yet, where can I find the syllabi for those classes? Just trying to make sure I’m not missing anything before classes start 😭

What usually happens during the first week of classes?

I’m a freshman and I was wondering how the first week of classes are like.
I know professors usually go over the syllabus and do the typical first-day stuff, but what happens after that? Do professors usually get right into lectures/material after the first day, or is the first week generally pretty relaxed?
Just curious what I should expect for my first week of classes 😭

UGA 2026 academic calendar?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but does that mean that even though Dec. 1 is a Tuesday, you’d go to your WF and Friday classes? But any other classes including Tuesday classes have ended? Like why did they put that? “WF and Friday Only Class Schedule in Effect (Does not include MWF Classes)

Also what is Commencement? Is it a mandatory thing or smth?

How is the engineering job market in New York?

I’m a college student trying to decide what direction I want to go in, and I’m interested in engineering related to medicine/biotech, particularly bio- or chemistry-based engineering.

Is it true that New York has a big biotech/biochemistry industry? And I’m wondering if that translates to opportunities for people with engineering degrees like biomedical engineering, bioengineering, chemical engineering, etc. Is there a decent job market for those fields in NY, or are most of the opportunities still more focused on biochem/biology roles?

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who works in biomedical/biotech/chemical engineering in New York!

Is biochemistry a good degree if I want to stay in Georgia?

I’m a college student planning to major in biochemistry, and I’m considering pursuing a PhD eventually. I keeping seeing people say how the job market for biochemistry can be pretty competitive, especially if you don’t live near one of the major biotech/pharma hubs.

I’ve heard that areas like the Bay Area/San Francisco and NYC have some of the biggest concentrations of jobs in biotech and biochemistry. My family and I live in Georgia so ideally I’d like to stay in Georgia after college, so I’m wondering how the job market is here.

Is biochemistry a degree with good career prospects in the long run, or is it one of those fields where you really need to be willing to move to find good opportunities?

Would love to hear from anyone in biochem, biotech, pharma, or research!

Question about physical vs. digital textbooks

I’m buying my textbooks for my UGA courses and had a question. Does it matter whether you have a physical copy or a digital copy of the textbook?

For example, for some of my English reading books, I found much cheaper ebook versions on Amazon. Do professors generally care whether you have a physical or digital copy, or is either one fine?

Are there any types of courses where it’s more beneficial (or required) to have a physical copy for things like annotating, open-book exams, etc.? Just trying to figure out which books I should buy physically vs. digitally before I spend the money.

Thanks!

When does financial aid usually get applied?

I was wondering if this is normal. I’m an incoming freshman and my Zell Miller has been on my bill statement for about a month now, but my Pell Grant and the rest of my financial aid still haven’t been applied. Since the payment deadline is August 17, I was wondering if they usually get applied this close to the due date.
I already emailed the Bursar’s Office and I’m waiting to hear back, but I wanted to see if anyone knows when they typically show up.
Thanks!

How does the student discount at the Natural History Museum work?

The website says, "Students of any age with valid student ID qualify for student admission."

Does the student ID have to be a physical card, or would showing my college student portal page with my student information work too?

Has anyone used the student discount with a digital ID?

I’m not a resident so I’m looking at other discounted options

Can you buy a meal plan for just one semester?

I have a question about how the meal plans work.

From what I've seen, it looks like you're billed separately for the fall and spring semesters, but the Dining website also says meal plans run for an academic year.

Does that mean if you buy a meal plan (like the 5-Day Plan), you're committed to both semesters, or is there a way to only have a meal plan for one semester?

I've already emailed the Dining Office, but I wanted to ask here too in case anyone has experience with it.

What is the point of Paw Points?

I have a question about Paw Points. Are they actually worth getting, and what's the point of them?

I've looked on the Dining website, and it explains how to get them and where you can use them, but I still don't really understand why they exist. Is there any benefit to using Paw Points instead of just paying with a credit or debit card?

Is a bike worth it for transportation?

I’m an incoming freshman and won’t be bringing a car to campus. I plan on using UGA buses and ACC Transit to get around, but I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a bike. My main worry is that someone could cut the lock and it might get stolen.

For those of you without cars, do you find a bike useful as a backup when bus schedules don’t line up, or is it not really necessary?

When will housing costs show on my bill?

I have tuition and student fees on here but does anyone know around when they’ll have my housing costs on there? Also when they’ll apply scholarships and financial aid?

EDIT: nvm y’all I emailed the bursar office and they said it would be posted overnight to my account and scholarships and aid will be applied next month.
Just wanted to let y’all know in case anyone else was wondering too.

No car - how is the bus system?

I’m an incoming UGA freshman, and I’m planning on not bringing a car to campus my first year. I know the UGA buses are pretty good for getting around campus, but I’m curious about using ACC Transit to get off campus (grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, etc.).

How reliable is the ACC Transit system? Are the buses usually on time, or should I expect frequent delays?
Also, what app(s) do you all use to track buses and plan routes? I’ve seen people mention myStop, Google Maps, and the UGA app, but I’m not sure which one is the most accurate or easiest to use.

Any tips or things you know about ACC Transit would be appreciated. Thanks!

Financial aid - how much do I actually pay?

I just got my official financial aid package from UGA, and I accepted all of my scholarships/aid in Athena. My question is… how do I know how much I actually have to pay before the payment deadline?

My official financial aid package only shows the scholarships, grants, etc. that I accepted, but I can’t find anywhere that tells me how much I owe after all of that is applied. I know there’s an estimated financial aid offer and the estimated cost of attendance, but I’ve been told those are just estimates and not the actual amount I’ll be billed.

Does the balance eventually show up in Student Account Services in Athena? Right now I don’t have any charges or balance showing there.

I already emailed the financial aid office, but I’m still waiting to hear back, so I figured I’d ask here too. It may sound like a stupid or obvious question, but I genuinely don't know. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Switching from BME to something else?

I’ve been reconsidering my major (currently BME) and thinking about possibly switching to EE or even something outside of engineering, maybe in healthcare administration. Like something more involved with the biological side of things. A lot of people have told me to look at job postings for careers I think I’d enjoy and then work backward from there when choosing a major.

My problem is that I’m not really sure what jobs I want to work in the first place. I know I enjoy biology and chemistry much more than math and physics, which is one reason I’ve been questioning engineering, but I’m feeling pretty lost on where to start.

How do you actually research job postings when you don’t already know what career you’re aiming for? Do you just scroll through LinkedIn/Indeed until something catches your eye, or are there better ways to narrow things down?

Also, are there any majors or career paths that are more biology- and chemistry-focused rather than physics-heavy? I’d love to hear what fields others in similar situations ended up pursuing.
