Positive HSG experience

Hi all, read in through everyone’s experiences, tips and tricks etc has helped me learnt a lot and I would like to share my positive HSG experience to ease your mind if you are planning to get one done.

Process:
- check in, fill out forms
- put on gown (waist down clothing off)
- doc explained procedure whiling I was waiting for my turn (I was second in the queue). She said she may need to push through it if the tubes are blocked and she reassured me that if it gets too much for me the handle, we can always schedule another’s appointment with the help of the intervention of medication
- got into the room and lay on the table
- nurse cleaned the outside of my vagina
- doc started procedure and walked me through the whole process. Inserted speculum and catheter. Informed me when she pushed the dye in and when to apply more. She also informed me there will be this cramping sensation before she pushed the dye in. I started to take long breaths and breathe out loud and just tried to focus on my breathing.
- nurse and doc checked in the whole way through to see if I was still ok
- they ensured I was feeling ok (no lightheaded or nausea) before I got up
- use the clean wiped they provided to clean myself up
- changed the gown and went home

They made it so quick and easy! I only felt 1 second VERY mild cramp when she first pushed the dye through. 0 pain, VERY mild discomfort for me. They said both tubes are open! The most discomfort I have felt during this procedure was my mental state as I was so nervous!

I took 500mg Tylenol 2 hours prior and a gummy 1.5 hour prior to the appointment. Also had my husband drive me there and pick me up for moral support because I was very nervous about the potential pain. ** Bonus point to my husband when he tried to comfort me in the car before I went in by saying: thank you for doing this for us and I know your tubes are open for sure and there’s nothing to worry about and this is just a bonus procedure to increase our chances in the next 3 months! I was in awe because I didn’t tell him that which means he did some research on his own!🥹

Does it look like I ovulate?

I didn’t ovulate until 4 months after HBC removal. And I took a break of tracking in between. By the time I tracked again I believe I just missed my first ovulation as I had BBT rise then had my period 11 days ish later. This time I am able to capture both surge and BBT rise. I know I need a few more days to confirm ovulation. I also plan to use PdG tests later on. But just thought to ask for some insight on this since this is the first and only cycle I am able to track both. Thank you in advance!

Hi all, I’m 32 and will be 33 this year. 5’3 125lbs, workout 5 days a week, eat whole foods home cooked meals around 2000 cals a day. No drinking no smoking go to bed before 9pm and wake up 5am to workout before work. I take multivitamins, omega 3 fish oils, prenatal. I got off Nuvaring in January this year. I started using it back in 2013. I took a ring free break week every month for the first few years and was using it continuously to skip any withdrawal period the last few years. When I removed it in January I did not have any withdrawal bleeding. And it’s almost 5 months and I have 0 positive LH test nor any periods.

I have already talked to my family doctor a few times. Initially he ordered bloodwork and ultrasound for me and everything came back normal except estrogen and progesterone are on the low end but within normal range. He then suggested to put me back on oral BC pills to restart my period because he said the artificial hormones in the pills will boost up my hormones level and hopefully my body will adjust from there. I decided not to go with that because it just seems so counterintuitive to me when I had spent all this time to detox from the artificial hormones. I have also recently started acupuncture with 4 sessions done already but can’t say I feel any different yet.

I can’t really remember what my periods were like before Nuvaring. I think I had periods every month usually lasted under 5 days and did not have any severe PMS except feeling heavy in my lower abdomen and sometimes lower back area.

I just got an appointment with an OBGYN in 1.5 week and on the waitlist for fertility clinic. I understand our bodies may take a full year to regulate post HBC but I have been reading a lot different posts about TTC and I’m worried if I could possibly have “lean” PCOS instead of post HBC amenorrhea. I just want to cover all the bases as our parents are only getting older and I want them to be able to spend time with their future grandchildren for as long as possible. From what I gathered, I shall ask for these to be tested: fasting insulin, AMH, Free testosterone, SHBG and DHEA-S, to see if I have lean PCOS if all the other generic testing seems to be “normal”.

My questions are:

  1. any advice or input regarding to the lean PCOS testing I mentioned above?
  2. anyone has similar experiences to share regarding to whether the doctors were able to help you restart your fertility after treatments?
  3. what else should I ask for when I see the OBGYN?
  4. any advice are welcome

Thank you so much for your time!
