Reasons to use PrusaSlicer over Orca

Hi!

I've recently got my first Prusa (MK4S) and added it to my small farm consisting of Creality machines.

I immediately fell in love with the MK4S​, but since the build area is small and Core One L is very expensive I won't be able to migrate to Prusa-only farm anytime soon.

So far I've been using Orca and set up all my projects in it. I also added my MK4S and it seems to work well, I only did some basic filament calibrations. Sin​ce I don't have much experience with PrusaSlicer my question is - what's the benefit of using PrusaSlicer for Prusa printers over Orca? What am I missing or can't replicate in Orca?

Gearbox alignment weird sound

Hello!

I just assembled my MK4S kit and ran initial set up. During the gearbox alignment however, the extruder was making weird, buzzing-like noises. I wasn't sure if it's normal or not as I also couldn't find any videos of the calibration for sounds reference. Then, the filament feeding did not work - I chose PLA, but the extruder heated to 270 C (!) and did not purge anything. So I restarted the printer, ran the gearbox alignment again and this time it was quiet and filament started feeding normally

Opening the idler I see the filament is kind of off center and to the left - is it normal/expected?

TLDR:

  1. What could be causing an unpleasant buzzing/grinding sound during gearbox alignment?
  2. Is it ok that the filament is not centered on the gear?
  3. What is actually happening during the automatic gearbox alignment? I just don't understand the process

What could be causing those zits

Ender 3 V3 Plus
Orca Slicer
Sunlu PLA+ 2.0
brass nozzle 0.4mm
Nozzle temp: 215C
Bed temp: 55C
Retraction length: 0.6mm
Retraction speed: 40mm/s

  1. The filament is dried properly, I also use the same filament on another machine and there are no zits
  2. I don't think this is retraction related as those zits appear in places where there was no retraction.
  3. I replaced the nozzle, so it's not a worn out/partially clogged nozzle

What else could be causing this?

OrcaSlicer experience

Hello!

I'm currently running a small farm of Creality machines and use OrcaSlicer to manage this setup. It works well, but I'm considering buying my first Prusa (Core One + with INDX) and wondering how it will fit into my existing workflow.

Are OrcaSlicer profiles for Prusa much worse then then ones from PrusaSlicer? If so, can they be migrated between the slicers? Are there features that are not portable?

Or perhaps is it better to switch to PrusaSlicer and also use it to manage Creality printers?

I have some projects/models which I'd like to be able to print on both Creality and Prusa machines depending on the load, so don't want to have a "slicer per brand" setup.

Uneven extrusion on all prints

Ender 3 V3 plus

Sunlu PLA

220 C

Getting this kind of pattern on all prints (it happens in the same spots).

I've checked belts tension, lubed rods, leveled bed, cleared extruder gears, checked z offset and flow rate.

The extent varies by filament quality, for example:

Pink is Sunlu PLA+ 2.0 - only uneven lines visible or small holes.

Yellow is Sunlu PLA - much worse filament that I rarely use and the result is a complete abomination.

But the pattern is the same, it only varies in intensity.

What else do you think I should check?
