We Have Classic and Modern Maple, But What About Early Post-Big Bang?

It might be an unpopular opinion, but with MapleStory Classic World coming out, and with so many different takes on classic Maple already available through Maple Worlds, MapleRoyals, MapleLegends, and others, I feel like the classic scene is starting to get a little crowded.

What I’d really like to see is a new private server or MapleStory Worlds project focused on the early post-Big Bang era: Lionheart Castle, Mercedes, Demon Slayer, and that general period of the game. Something that captures the feeling of servers like ExtaliaMS or Croosade, rather than going all the way back to pre-Big Bang or jumping straight into modern Maple.

Something around 3–4x EXP, with some thoughtful skill rebalancing, global Gachapon drops, and cubes obtainable through regular gameplay could be a lot of fun. Keep the progression meaningful, but remove some of the grind and rough edges that era originally had.

To me, this is the one niche that’s still noticeably missing. We have plenty of ways to play classic Maple, and we have modern Maple, but there isn’t much representing that middle period, the early post-Big Bang years when the game was becoming faster and more polished while still retaining a lot of the old-school MapleStory feel.

I’d love to see someone bring that era back.

How Would You Improve Classic World? Here Are My Ideas

Below are my proposed changes. Feel free to share your thoughts, critique any of them, or add your own suggestions. Maybe if this gets enough traction, it might even catch Nexon’s attention.

Leveling & Training:

- More viable training spots per level range — Players should have multiple competitive options instead of everyone being funneled into the same maps.

- Create maps for single-target classes — Lower spawn rates with monsters spread farther apart, but with excellent HP-to-EXP ratios. These maps would favor sniping and strong single-target classes over AoE.

- Remove “dead” level ranges — Rebalance monsters, EXP, HP and map layouts so players aren’t forced through awkward levels waiting for the next efficient training spot.

- Increase spawn rates where appropriate — High-density maps should allow AoE-focused classes to take advantage of their strengths. Killing large groups of monsters should feel satisfying.

- Multiple viable leveling methods — Grinding should remain the fastest option, but quests and PQs should provide competitive EXP and worthwhile rewards.

- Keep PQs relevant longer — PQs should remain a reasonable leveling option into roughly levels 70–100, while still being somewhat slower than optimal grinding.

- Expand on elemental weaknesses / elemental resistance

Maps & World:

- Revitalize underused regions — Rework Helios Tower, Korean Folk Town, Aqua Road, Mu Lung, Herb Town, Singapore, Omega Sector and similar areas with competitive training maps, better quests, unique drops, bosses and regional mechanics.

- Give every region an identity — Different areas should offer different advantages rather than simply having better or worse versions of the same training maps.

- Seasonal Victoria Island — Major towns should visually change with the seasons, particularly during winter/Christmas.

- Bring back special areas like Coke Town — Seasonal and unusual locations help make Maple World feel alive.

Equipment & Stats:

- Make Weapon DEF and Magic DEF meaningful — Defensive stats should noticeably affect survivability rather than being mostly irrelevant.

- Add meaningful elemental resistance — Fire, Ice, Lightning, Poison, etc. resistance on equipment should be useful when fighting appropriate monsters.

- Standardize secondary-stat requirements — Equipment should either consistently require secondary stats or consistently not require them. A handful of no-requirement items shouldn’t invalidate normal progression.

- Expand NPC equipment shops — Shops should sell gloves and shoes alongside weapons, hats, tops and bottoms, at least through roughly levels 30–40.

Scrolls & Item Progression:

- Make every scroll useful — Even currently undesirable scrolls such as Weapon DEF should have a legitimate purpose.

- Standardize scroll stats — Remove strange inconsistencies such as Shoe Jump providing DEX while Shoe DEX doesn’t.

- Expand scroll variety — All appropriate stats should exist across equipment categories; for example, Helmet STR shouldn’t be arbitrarily missing while Helmet DEX and INT exist.

Classes & Weapons:

- Merge weapon-specific Mastery skills — Instead of separate Sword/Axe/BW Mastery skills, use a universal weapon mastery system similar to post-Big Bang MapleStory.

- Support hybrid weapon builds by default — Players shouldn’t permanently cripple themselves because they invested into the “wrong” weapon mastery.

- Make every weapon type viable — 1H Sword, 2H Sword, 1H Axe, 2H Axe, 1H BW, 2H BW, etc. should all have advantages and disadvantages while remaining reasonably balanced.

- Give weapon types unique characteristics — Different weapons could modify attack speed, range, damage consistency or skill effects instead of simply having different numbers.

Party Quests & Bossing:

- Keep Party Quests relevant — PQs should provide respectable EXP and rewards well beyond the early game.

- Add lower-level expeditions — Introduce meaningful party bosses around levels 50, 60, 70 and beyond.

- Bossing shouldn’t begin at endgame — Players should learn party composition and boss mechanics throughout the leveling journey.

- Use existing regions for new bosses — Underused areas are ideal locations for new field bosses and expeditions.

Monster Book & Exploration:

- Bring back the Monster Book — Hunting different monsters should contribute toward collection and completion goals.

- Use the Monster Book to encourage exploration — Regional sets can give players reasons to hunt monsters and visit maps they would otherwise ignore.

Social Features:

- Add player profiles — Let players showcase their character, equipment, achievements, Monster Book progress, guild and other accomplishments.

- Make Fame meaningful — Fame milestones could unlock titles, profile badges, cosmetics and novelty rewards without providing meaningful combat advantages.

- Make Guilds matter more — Playing alongside guild members could provide small benefits such as minor party EXP bonuses or bonuses when fighting bosses together.

- Keep social bonuses small — Guild membership should be beneficial without becoming mandatory for efficient progression.

- Make other players’ drops visible — Seeing rare equipment and items drop for other players makes shared maps feel more social and exciting.

Free Market & Economy:

- Keep physical player shops — Don’t replace the Free Market with a completely automated Auction House.

- Add Free Market item search — Players can search for an item and see which room/shop is selling it, but must physically travel there to purchase it.

- Potentially limit searches — A small daily search limit could preserve some of the discovery and browsing aspect of the Free Market.

Events & Mini games:

- Make seasonal events meaningful — Christmas, Halloween, New Year and other major events should noticeably change the world and provide substantial activities.

- Transform existing towns during events — Decorations, music, NPCs, monsters and quests should appear throughout Maple World instead of events existing entirely inside separate menus/maps.

- Expand minigames — Add more casual social activities beyond Omok and Match Cards.

- Use events to bring players together — Seasonal bosses, minigames and activities should encourage players to gather in towns and interact.
