Hi all

I’m from the UK and have recently moved to central Georgia temporarily with work. I’ve never really had to deal with cockroaches before, so I’m not sure whether this is a “welcome to Georgia” moment or something I should be worried about.

Last night I noticed a reddish-brown cockroach (photos attached) coming out of the overflow opening on my bathroom sink.

We moved in just under 2 weeks ago. So far I’ve only ever seen this one, and only in this bathroom. I haven’t seen any in the kitchen or anywhere else in the house. There is no other evidence of cockroaches.

I poured toilet bowl cleaner followed by very hot (~90C/195F) water down the overflow because I thought it might flush it out, but I’m at a bit of a loss as to whether this is concerning and/or what to do.

Tonight I noticed a reddish-brown cockroach (photos attached) repeatedly coming out of the overflow opening on my bathroom sink. It’s around an inch long, has long antennae, and disappears back into the overflow as soon as I turn the light on or walk into the bathroom.

The house is a detached new-build (built in 2023) and we’ve only recently moved in. So far I’ve only ever seen this one, and only in this bathroom. I haven’t seen any in the kitchen or anywhere else in the house. There is no other evidence of cockroaches.
