Tapas closes in March 2027. Readers and creators: where are you going, and what should a new home look like?
Hi all. I work in product at a software startup and I’ve been following the Tapas shutdown with great sadness. I’m exploring whether there’s room for a new webtoon platform that puts creators first, but I haven’t built anything and I’m not promoting anything. I’d rather hear from the people affected before anyone builds the wrong thing.
If you read on Tapas:
- Which series are you worried about losing?
- Roughly how much do you spend per month on webtoons? Coins, subscriptions, Patreon, anything.
- Would you rather pay per episode, pay a flat monthly fee for everything, or read free with ads? And why?
If you publish on Tapas:
- Where are you planning to move your series? And what’s holding you back from the alternatives you’ve looked at?
- Roughly what did Tapas earn you per month, compared to Patreon or others? A rough range is fine. And has Tapas told you whether the rights to exclusive series come back to you?
- What would a new platform need to do for you to move your series there, and what would be an instant dealbreaker?
I’ll post a summary of what I learn back here.
Thanks for reading!
