are there any known problems, using groups.google.com for mail?

since 2026-05-01 I did not receive any mail via google groups any more. They show up in the list's archive - but I never received an e-mail copy of those, as before.

No, they are not in my junk mail folder.

I have seen former similar reports, such as https://www.reddit.com/r/gsuite/comments/1cmx9nw/google_group_emails_not_getting_delivered_any/?tl=de , but no solution.

Edit: one of the members has a read triangle - but not me.

Windows 11 utility that lets you right-click Microsoft Office files and open them in the Google web equivalent

I kept running into a small but annoying workflow issue: I use Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides, but people still send me Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. I wanted a quick way on Windows 11 to open those files in the Google web equivalent without manually uploading them to Drive first.

I put together a small open-source Python utility that does this:

- Right-click a local `.docx`, `.xlsx`, or `.pptx` file

- Choose **Open in Google Docs**

- The file uploads to your Google Drive

- Google converts it to Docs, Sheets, or Slides

- The converted file opens in your browser

It currently supports:

- `.docx`, `.doc`, `.rtf`, `.txt` to Google Docs

- `.xlsx`, `.xls`, `.xlsm`, `.csv` to Google Sheets

- `.pptx`, `.ppt` to Google Slides

It uses the Google Drive API and the narrow `drive.file` OAuth scope. You create your own Google Cloud OAuth desktop credential, so I am not distributing any credentials or tokens.

Sharing in case this helps other Google Workspace users on Windows.

A few notes:

- It does not preserve Excel VBA macros.

- Google controls the conversion quality.

- It does not delete or modify your original local file.

- You should never share your `credentials.json` or `token.json`.

- The included installer adds a right-click menu option instead of forcing Windows default file associations.

Source/download: https://github.com/drandall70-max/OpenInGoogle

It is free, open-source, and the packaged ZIP is under Releases > v1.0.0.

I’d appreciate feedback from anyone who uses Google Workspace heavily on Windows. Is this useful? Would a packaged .exe installer make it more helpful for nontechnical users?

About G Suite legacy, Free edition (no charges)

I have a legacy free G Suite account (the old 50-user version).

Back in 2022, I chose not to migrate to the paid Google Workspace Business Starter plan and kept the free legacy version instead.

My question is:
Is it still possible to upgrade to Google Workspace Business Starter and keep it free?

Or does this type of legacy account still have any resale value today?

Thank you.

Recommendations for Google Workspace backup solutions?

I’m currently evaluating backup options for our Google Workspace environment and still pretty early in the research/scoping phase. Mainly trying to understand what people are actually happy with in production and what things are worth paying attention to before committing to a platform.

Right now the main vendors I’ve been looking at are afi.ai and Axcient, but I’m still open to other options as well.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with hands-on experience, especially around restore reliability, admin experience, retention policies, coverage gaps, pricing surprises, or anything you wish you knew earlier before rolling one out.

How is everyone handling the dreaded Authuser=0 (multiple accounts) bug in Apps Script add-ons?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to open a discussion on handling one of the most notorious and frustrating limitations in Google Apps Script add-on development: the multiple accounts Authuser=0 trap.

The Context: My team recently launched a Workspace management add-on. Shortly after launch, we onboarded an enterprise client who left a great review but immediately reported a frustrating "nitpick": he's logged into multiple Google Workspace accounts, while he's accessing the add-on with his second logged account, the sidebar of our add-on was selecting the default account of their browser rather than the account actually linked to the active spreadsheet.

After consulting with my lead dev, we realised we were dealing with a platform-level infrastructure issue, and not a bug in our code.

The Trap: As most of you know, when a user is juggling multiple Google accounts in one Chrome window (e.g., u/0/, u/1/), Google Apps Script's HtmlService often gets completely confused by the session cookies. If they open the sheet with a secondary account, the underlying iframe still forces the add-on to authenticate using the Default account (authuser=0).

The result is massive user confusion, as the sidebar displays data or permissions for the completely wrong account.

No Workaround Found: We searched high and low but couldn't find a native programmatic patch to force the iframe to respect the active document's user context. So we advised the client to perform their admin operations inside a dedicated Chrome Profile or an Incognito window.

My Questions for the Community: Since we want to provide the smoothest UX possible, I’m curious how other devs here are tackling this:

  1. The "Holy Grail" Fix: Has anyone found a reliable native workaround, undocumented parameter, or JS hack to force HtmlService to respect the active authuser index?
  2. User Experience (UX): Do you preemptively warn users about this in your UI/onboarding flow, or do you just document it in your FAQs and wait for the support tickets to roll in?
  3. Google's Roadmap: Has anyone who talks to Googlers heard any whispers on whether this is ever getting patched at the infrastructure level?

Would love to hear your thoughts, workarounds, and war stories regarding this bug!

Valid emails go to Admin Quarantine, can't find a way to bypass

I inherited the administration of my school district's Google Workspace as my IT Director up and left a few months ago. We are having a HUGE problem with valid emails going into Admin Quarantine. I noticed this while testing a new email account for one of our teachers. When I go into Moderation, I can see them all there, and there were more in there than I thought.

I did the best I could to go into Apps>Google Workspace>GMail>Spam, Phishing and Malware to set up Spam settings, even creating lists to put in valid email addresses and Domains. But no matter what I do, emails from domains that are in the list, set to bypass, still end up in the Admin Quarantine.

I'm not sure what our former IT Director set up, but I can't fix it. Also, at the top of the email header, there is the line "X-Gm-Auto-Quarantined: 1", which I found out means that it gets sent to Quarantine.

This is driving me crazy... Even as I type this I see emails that seem VERY important sitting in Moderation. I can release them, but I can't be checking Moderation all day... should I be?

I really need some help on this....

Google makes me 2 factor login every day on my computers

I use 3 computers. Every day or two, I have to login and 2 factor login on all 3 devices.

I'm not closing the browsers.

I have default G Suite settings. I am the administrator.

This happens on 3 G Suite businesses I belong to, and on multiple devices.

How do I just stay logged in on my own devices?

Paid Google Workspace Account Tech Support Hounding me for an Upgrade

Paid Google Workspace customer here. Needed some tech help. The support personal then tried to upsell me. I’ve since received ongoing upselling emails from the tech support guy. I thought paying for a subscription was enough. I guess not.

Google Workspace

Hi everyone, I registered Workspace and sent my documents for verification. Everything went fine. I tried to log into the admin console, but it prompted me to choose a tariff plan and wouldn't let me through. Has anyone encountered this? I'd appreciate any help.

Folder / Files created by ex-employees disappeared when they left

Hi all,

My company uses G-Suite.

We have a main shared folder when we use to do our daily work, my team of 5 have access to read, edit the entire shared folder. We have both Win and Mac users, and some map it to their local drive, while some uses the Web.

Within the main shared folder - the levels are as follows:

  • Level 1 TEAM [this is created by me and shared with my team]
  • Level 2 Function 1 / Function 2 / Function 3 etc [Functions are like Marketing, HR etc]
  • Level 3 Project 1 / Project 2 / Project 3 [Projects are like client projects]
  • Level 4 Project specific files

The team normally creates and edits folders or files in Level 3 / Level 4.

2 of my team members left, and I started to realise I cannot access their folders or files that they personally created in Level 3 or 4. Anyone encountered this issue before?

I am scratching my brain, as it is literally >5 years of projects / raw files. We are not able to retrieve everything via email.. :(

Question for the Google wizards 🧙‍♂️

I’m trying to fix the "vertical zoom" on my corporate calendar. Using Chrome on Macbook Pro (similar behavior on Safari).

My personal Google Calendar shows the full 24-hour day on one screen, making the time slots look nice and compact. However, my corporate account only shows 7 AM – 7 PM, which stretches the slots to look double-sized (attached).

I've already checked Density and Zoom settings with no luck. Does anyone know how to force the corporate view to show the full day (midnight to midnight) so the slots shrink back to a normal size?

Thanks in advance!

I lost my reseller status and now Google is asking me to go via a distributor

Hi all,

I have been reselling Google Mail since it was Google Apps (before Google Workspace, GSuite, etc.) and became a reseller as soon as the plan was available.

Now it seems that, while my Partner Sales Console account is still active and I can manage existing clients, I can't add new accounts, nor I can buy new services (e.g. extra storage for existing clients). That's because I didn't apply for a new authorization a couple of years ago.

When trying to regain my reseller status, Google prompts me to reach out to a distributor, which I don't want to do (see Google Support's email below).

Has any one gone through the same process? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Many thanks!

Using google workspace as personal account

I'm thinking about using a googlw workspace business standard as a personal account.
there are some benefits like that you are in control of your own data, it's cheaper than a google ai pro plan, can buy additionals subscriptions, higher limits. but i don't know if in long term i would get issues. I wanted to hear opinions about this, i'm thinking about transferring my personal gmail into my workspace account.
