Fun patches: earn as a troop or on our own?

We’re first year Girl Scouts, so we’re pretty new and not sure what the norm is. I’ve seen patches like the “Girl Scouts Love the Outdoors” and the set of America 250 patches that come with a list of activities to complete to earn them. I was under the impression that we could do these activities on our own, and earn the patches individually. Our troop leader disagrees, and doesn’t want some of the girls to have them and some not.

I understand the desire for fairness, but our council also hosts a variety of events that can earn fun patches. (Sporting events, day at the zoo, etc.) So I feel like she’s asking us to avoid those events as well unless we plan to attend as a whole troop. She has also stated that she is just too busy to be planning extra things right now. Which I understand, but also, the “extra” is what drew us to Girl Scouts. I don’t want my daughter to miss these experiences because our troop leader doesn’t want to plan or attend them.

Thoughts? Are there official “rules” for earning fun patche?

2 days in MK and 2 days in EPCOT…?

Hello! We booked our first Disney vacation as a family for the first week of February 2027. Planning on two days in MK and two days in EPCOT, with a rest day in between.

I was born and raised in Florida, and went to Disney many times from childhood through college, but I haven’t been in the parks in 20 years. A lot has changed!

Given the timing of our trip and the fact that we have two days in each park… Can you advise what our daily plan of attack might look like? Or maybe point me in the direction of some sample itineraries? Since we have two full days in each park and February is often “lower” crowds, I’m kind of hoping to start in one spot and meander through the parks chronologically, rather than sprinting all over to cram in all the popular rides… But I also don’t want to show up unprepared with unrealistic expectations.

Kids are 6 and 11, so we can handle longer park days. My oldest and I both get motion sick, so we can probably skip some of the more intense rides. My youngest loves princesses, but I don’t plan on doing every single character meet and greet.

Our travel agent suggested we do MK-EPCOT-rest-MK-EPCOT… Would this be better than doing the two days back to back? We are also loosely considering adding park hopper to our second EPCOT day, so we can check out Toy Story Land at HS. Worth it, or no?

Thanks for all your help!

Seeking perfect peanut butter cookies…

I’ve found what I believe to be the perfect chocolate chip cookie (Pinch of Yum’s “The Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies” https://pinchofyum.com/the-best-soft-chocolate-chip-cookies)… I’ve made it hundreds of times without fail, and I always get rave reviews.

I want the size and texture of this cookie, but in peanut butter cookie form.

If I sub 1/4 (?) of the flour for powdered peanut butter, would this recipe theoretically still work? Or is there a way to sub in real peanut butter that would give the same result?

Or is there another recipe out there that I haven’t tried that will give me big, thick, soft peanut butter cookies?

Help and advice much appreciated! TIA!

Talk to me about ich.

TL;DR: Would ich kill fish before the spots appear? Did ich come from the fish store, or was it already in my tank? (And should I avoid this LFS in the future??) Can amano shrimp get ich? If the last 2 fish in my tank die, how will I know I’ve gotten rid of ich since I won’t be able to see when the spots are gone…?

The long version: We have a 10 gallon tank that housed one betta and two amano shrimp. It’s been up and running for 2.5 years, and we had the betta for a little over 2 years. The betta died a couple weeks ago, presumably of old age. (He didn’t have any signs of illness, we just woke up one day and he had swam across the rainbow bridge.) We did a water change, vacuumed the gravel, and picked up some new fish (8 cardinal tetras and one more amano shrimp) from the LFS. Acclimated them over about an hour and a half before adding them to the tank. I’ve tested the water multiple times through the whole process, and the parameters are fine. No spikes or issues.

It’s been a week since we added the new fish, and all but two of the tetras have died. We started losing them a day or two after we added them to the tank, but none had any signs of illness. A couple days ago, I noticed little white dots on some of the remaining tetras… Ich. Fantastic. Started treatment and lost two more. Now we have two left and they are covered in spots. I’m not optimistic.

My questions: Would ich kill fish before the spots appear? Did ich come from the fish store, or was it already in my tank? Can amano shrimp get ich? If the last 2 fish in my tank die, how will I know I’ve gotten rid of the ich and it’s safe to try adding fish again? Any other tips for dealing with this? I’m frustrated, and my 11 year old is sad. 😫
