So I put a comment on I-dles recent dance challenge with kiss of life about how I found it disappointing. And instead of being met with people agreeing or even arguing based on the live stream, the majority of responses were just straight up insane personal attacks(from mainly grown adults, mind you. I'm still a minor) or commenting about how bts and blackpink have also done racist things (I am not a bts or blackpink fan or stan. Black pink was what got me into kpop around last year but upon finding out about the n word stuff with no apology I immediately unfollowed and stopped supporting them. For reference I am mixed black and white, but I am very pale and have dyed pink hair so I look extremely white passing. I do understand that Idle as well as many other groups have had racism or cultural appropriation problems, however idle in particular the past few years has been very outspoken about loving everyone and diversity within their music videos. So yes it was disappointing to see their FIRST dance challenge of their new song be with a group that had such a big controversy, it kinda shows to me that they want to take what they like about black culture and use us in their videos for diversity points but when it comes down to it they'll support people who don't like us. Not every group who does a challenge with kiss of life is racist or supports them because a lot of it is up to the company, but idle has plenty of control over what they do and are outspoken about social issues, so it was very disappointing. I also want to say that I don't think that every group who has had problems with cultural appropriation is racist(I still likely would not support them personally) but what kiss of life did went beyond cultural appropriation (not sure what the consensus on it is here but in my opinion it was inexcusable, especially considering they 100% knew better and apologies don't erase the harm) so I commented that it was disappointing and was met with personal attacks about my bio or my profile picture as my account is private, as well as assumptions that I support BTS or blackpink. So my question here is if these people truly believe that kiss of life did nothing wrong, why is their first jump to attack the person calling them out or to bring up other groups controversy? Because they don't truly believe kiss of life didn't do anything wrong, they just need an excuse to defend their faves imo At the end of the day it is up to each individual BLACK person if they choose to forgive kiss of life or not and it is up to non black people to listen to what the community affected actually has to say, this is all just my opinion but I'm interested to hear what other people have to say.
