I was stupid enough to pay $5 to buy the Post and Daily News today. There was nothing in the sports section that was worth reading. I can see why circulation for both papers are dead.
The Post had an Atta Boy writeup on the Yankees avoiding a sweep of the Blue Jays. One would have thought Mike "Mister Softee" Vaccaro would have written it. Then, there was some fluff on the Mets about how everything is coming together, never mind they're 56-69. The paper finished it up with Giants propaganda, never mind the team was terrible on Saturday.
The dying Daily News offered fluff on the Giants, Mets and Yankees.
Remembered when both papers would be tough on teams in town every day, even when there was winning. Those days have been long gone.
The News died the minute Bob Raissman retired.
The Post has been a running joke for a long time with Mister Softee being a lead columnist. Only guy worth reading is Mushnick. The Post's sister newspaper California Post has a better sports section than the Post. If Rupert is allocating all his funds on the California Post, maybe it's time the NY Post should just go under.
When I was a kid growing up, I would buy eight newspapers. It was a must to read every day. The sports section was the Bible. Now, all the newspapers died and the Daily News and NY Post are on life support. If we're being honest, both papers are only alive in name only just for poltiical reasons with the News being a propaganda piece for Mayor Mamdani and the Post being a propaganda piece for President Trump.
Is there a reason both papers need to be running when no one reads the paper anymore? It shouldn't exist. Not in 2026 when people get their information on social media at a speed of a DSL Internet account. If the Post and News insist on being a cheerleader on the teams in town just like WFAN, it's time to be out of business.
The Giants played on Saturday against an awful Vikings team in a preseason game. They were terrible. Yet it did not stop Giants fans and the Giants cheerleading media from going overboard to praise the Giants like a high school football team yesterday.
I don't get it. What am I missing? They stunk all around. The offense was terrible, and so was the defense. They were poorly coached as always.
I have been hearing since HARBAUGH arrived that the Giants are going to win the NFC East. Some even say a Super Bowl team. What Giant color sky is in your world? They still don't have a quarterback, and he's a concussion away from being out for the season. Don't make me laugh about Jameis Winston. Furthermore, Dart is not an NFL quarterback. I saw nothing to think he is. And then you have Cam Skattebo who is injury-prone. A defense that is not any good. A head coach who may be past his prime.
This idea the Giants are better than the Eagles and Cowboys is laughable.
I even think Vegas is generous on the Giants with 8 wins.
Reality is the Giants are a 5-win team at best.
It did not take too long for the Giants hype to begin with after one preseason game, which the Giants stunk. Lori talking about the Giants being a playoff team and being better than the Cowboys and Eagles.

I see Dodger Stadium, Fenway Park, Angels Stadium, Rogers Centre and the old Joe Robbie Stadium refurbished and seeing how beautiful is it this year, and I'm wondering how come the A's couldn't do the same with Oakland?
So this guy makes his Mets debut last night and did his gyration stuff after striking out his first ever batter. Then he did it again to end the inning to get out of a jam despite giving up three straight hits.
Yeah this is going to go well for a 49-66 team.

How can the A's sell themselves to Las Vegas with the idea they are going to lose 100 games this season? It's going to be a hard sell in Vegas to have Mark Kotsay and David Frost overseeing this team along with an absentee owner. There's nothing endearing about this ballclub.
I was very happy the Dodgers acquired Tarik Skubal. Mainly because I knew Mike "Mr. Softee" Vaccaro, Ian O'Connor, Michael Kay and Yankees fans would whine about Skubal being a Dodgers, and by golly, I was right.
Seeing Mr. Softee cry wolf about the Dodgers getting Skubal in Monday's Post was embarrassing. Like a child who did not get his way. This is your main sports columnist in town, NY fans. Somehow, Dick Young and Vic Ziegel would be rolling over their graves reading this rubbish.
Vaccaro is the same guy who has been hailing the Yankees for a long time for getting all the big names and marveling with joy on the Yankees beating up on the Twins, and now he is crying wolf. Can you say hypocrisy?
Vaccaro should be going after the Yankees for coming up small in the trade deadling and preventing LA to get Skubal. Of all the teams that needed Skubal, it was the Yankees, who had a shot to win it all this season. I'm not that convinced the Dodgers can win it all with that bullpen. Oh, and he should go after the Brewers for not getting Skubal. They decided to keep their prospects rather than make the big move.
Now you can go after Boras, Skubal and even the Dodgers for having a hush-hush deal. It doesn't matter. The Brewers should have gone for it. They didn't. This is where Mister Softee should have gone after.
But if the Yankees got Skubal, it would be okay in his world.

Remember on Trade Deadline day when the FAN would invest its resources in putting all day sports talk on the trade deadline? Who can't forget the FAN having talkies all around the country and even locally to talk about the trade deadline?
I decided to tune into the station today thinking it would happen, but no. What you see is was plenty of guy talk and fart jokes.
It's really sad what the FAN has really become after all the hard work everyone put into in its inception.
This is another reason why I hate David Stearns.
Would someone explain to me what was the point of taking Stock out of the game? He was great for six innings today. The Marlins couldn't hit him. What are we saving him for? He's 36 years old with no future here. Might as well let him achieve his dream of going deep in the game. It's not like we are going to be great this year, and as fate would have it, we lost because of analytics.

It's been five years since she banned me on the Program. I still don't understand why I was banned. I brought a lot to that show. I entertained her a lot. We had a five-minute conversation. She would always had me on as soon as I was on her screen. We had such great chemistry. It was the best radio out there, and people were commenting a lot about my chat with her. She genuinely liked me.
Then, for some reason, I was told by her not to call her anymore. I asked her why, and she gave this:
To this day, I really don't get it. I know a guy named Jay went to talk to her about me, and Lori somehow got offended, but this doesn't add up, and Lori's explanation doesn't add up, either.
I wish I would have an adult conversation with Lori and we can address it and rectify it. I miss talking to her.

There's no way the Mets can have him be the lead PBP guy next year when Howie retires. The Mets need to hire an adult in the room who can do PBP like Gary Thorne who can counsel Keith Raad and Pat McCarthy next year.
Raad rarely pays attention when he does the PBP. He gets too distracted. He tries to be too funny when he's not. He talks useless stats that has nothing to do with the game. He's too long-winded. He goofs around way too much with McCarthy at games. Plus, he and Howie has 0 chemistry.
The Mets can't be a serious franchise if Raad is the main guy next year. He's too young and too green. Quite frankly, why was he hired in the first place? He's more suited for a minor league town than a professional sports town where he can learn on the job.
The Mets and Audacy need to pay up and get Gary Thorne in next year to replace Howie.
Why can't we get Yankee talk after Yankees game?
This is another reason this station sucks. It would be nice if someone on the station would do a show to talk Yankees and be a therapist to the fans after a loss or be a safe space for fans to enjoy after a win.
At one time, I remember we used to have Mets Extra when Howie would chat with the fans for an hour. I miss those days.
This is another guy WFAN should hire.
He was a legend in Denver for 40 years, and he can still bring it when it comes to talking sports. He is a New Yorker, and he is a NY Sports fan. He can be that kick in the ass the FAN would need to shake things up.

He would be great. He has talent by being engaging and giving strong opinions. He has a good journalism background. I call his show a lot, and we have such a great rapport. I know he will do his show from Vegas, but that should not deter the FAN from hiring him. His show is the best sports talk show in the nation. When he's on every night on Mad Dog Radio, he's a must-listen where you just can't wait to hear what he has to say on the world of sports.
