Who had Bryan Baker as AL saves leader, or Yoendrys Gómez as Twins saves leader on their bingo card?

Baker has 35 saves for TB, after 7 with Baltimore over 4 seasons.

Gomez has 17 saves since joining the Twins, after 2 with Dodgers and Rays and other clubs over the years.

Even our Louie exploded, going from 0 to 28 career this year.

The game has evolved in selecting who you put out there in the 9th.

Anyone have a local radio that plays the Dead?

We have a commercial FM station here that plays "the greatest hits of the 70s-90s."

Between ads for local car dealerships and jewelers, they play a lot of what you'd expect, Phil Collins, Madonna, Fleetwod Mac(not Perter Green version), Elton John, etc.

It's mainly listenable, apart from the ad-heavy nature.

However, they have a new afternoon DJ who surprises with a Dead tune on occasion, and it ain't just Touch of Grey. In the last 6 months I've heard One More Saturday Night, Shakedown Street, Uncle John's Band.

It's very bizarre to hear these songs next to the usual commercial FM fodder, but it's awesome.

How about you all?

I imagine there are still some great non-commercial FM stations out there that give the Dead their due.

Man, if Pigpen hadn't gotten sick.

Listening to The 1971 Fillmore East show from the At Least I'm Enjoying the Ride box on my new $35 Technics CD carousel I was lucky enough to find at the thrift store last week.

Brag aside, even though he was probably already ailing, these two shows from Fillmore East, 4/25/71, and 4/27/71, show the power of the Pig: Hard to Handle, The Rub, Good Lovin', Next Time You See Me, etc. All interspersed with new Americana and classic Jerry & Bob songs

He just offered that other side to the band, the raps, the harmonica, a little Hammond organ, the blues.

Hard to imagine an alternative Dead where he was healthy and continued to evolve, as he did on the Europe 72 tour, writing great songs like Mr. Charlie, The Stranger, plus playing better and better organ. The original Dead as a three pronged lead vocal beast were amazing.

What ifs and couldas are one of my specialties.

Preserve doubles gonna be epic

Watched the front nine of Sexton/Koling vs. Welck/Ullibari. So fun.

The introduction of serious OB at the Preserve, shuffling some baskets, and best shot v. alternate shots, not to mention some really fun duos, this should be a fun ride.

Hope for heavy catch card coverage, or Disc Golf Guy or Gatekeeper or someone getting some other footage out there besides Jomez.

Fun times.

What will happen when no living person on Earth saw the Dead live?

The recent NPR series was fun reads, how the Dead remain so relevant over 30 years after the end.

The big question was if it would ever end?

I do think the music will live on, like the Beatles, timeless excellence.

But Dead tribute bands, the iconography, skull fuck, the bears, Bertha, when no single person was there to see? Bob Weir and Dead and Co. insured another generation will remain invested, but what then?

Many of us will probably be dead, small d, before that comes to pass.

The summer 85 show Dave didn't include: 6-25-85

This one comes from the Blossom Music Center just outside Akron OH.

I was introduced to this show via Hunter Seamons excellent matrix.

There is some fun stuff here: Day Tripper - West LA Fadeaway opener, Big Railroad Blue, Jack Straw, Might as Well to end set 1.

Set 2 has China>Rider, a nice PITB into Drums and Space with Wheel outro.

Very enjoyable listen. This show falls between the Cincy show in the 30 Trips box, and the Saratoga show in the box.

Random show of the day: 2023/10/6 Frost Amphitheatre

Just pulled this one off nugs on a whim. 33 song monster, beautifully played, highlights galore:

Slewfoot, So Many Miles>Running the Route, Away from the Mire, 4 song encore sandwich, etc.

That's the thing about this band, every show has the same traits, never a dud, ever.

Prospect Promotion Incentive Picks

Never heard of these until I was checking the MLB draft order on the MLB website. Here are the conditions:

"If a player who was rated as a preseason Top 100 prospect by MLB Pipeline, Baseball America, and/or ESPN (at least two of the three) and was on his team's Opening Day roster and goes on to win the Rookie of the Year Award or place in the top three in MVP or Cy Young voting prior to qualifying for arbitration, the club is awarded a Prospect Promotion Incentive pick after the first round."

This year there were 2 awarded: Atlanta got pick 26 for Drake Baldwin winning ROY, and the Astros got 28 for Hunter Brown finishing top 3 in Cy Young.

The pick in between was another new draft rule I didn''t know: 10 pick penalty for clubs that exceed the competitive balance tax.: the Mets.

Punished this year: Jays, Dodgers, Mets, Phillies, Yankees.

Several teams will have 2 picks in the bank before the Jays and Dodgers make their 1st pick.

Like that rule a lot.

3-30-90: Love me a Jerry heavy show

This show kicks so much ass. Highlights for me include the Help>Slip>Franklin opener, and ChinaDoll> Uncle John>Terrapin 2nd set pre-drum, then Standing on the Moon>Not Fade Away>Attics closer.

It's all Over Now - Tom Thumb - Picasso Moon set 1 is also is also pretty sweet.

Don't have the official release, but Charlie Miller makes me happy as a clam.

Anyone read this yet?

About a third of the way through it. Enjoying the heck out of it. Newton does a heck of a job tying Jerry's life into the context of the times.

Another great add to the Dead canon.

The Phil bass solo

Listening to 1973-02-15, and Phil hits a great bass solo as part of Dark Star.

I remember one of the St. Louis box set show had another. He goes off on a 71 Hard to Handle as well.

Why were these so rare? I'm sure there were lots of others, but it shoulda been regular, not rare. For a band with thousands of drum solos ....

I found my Holy Grail

1973-06-10, famous show with Allmans in the house.

First listen tonight.

Dark Star>He's Gone>Wharf Rat, with a little Truckin' thrown in for good measure. How good is that?

Morning Dew opener, Bird Song, jamming with the Allmans etc., I can see why this show got released on its own apart from the box set.

I'm enjoying Usborne's matrix: his work is amazing.

Does Play Dead spell the end of the big box sets?

Dave just released the 8 show run from Madison Square Garden 1988 on Play Dead. I probably would have bought it as a box set had it been released as one. 88 is pretty underrepresented in the official release canon, and is a fun year full of good playing and diverse set lists.

So it begs the question, if you aren't going to release this as a box set, what would you release?

Thoughts?

Underrated Dave's Pick: Vol. 52, Santa Fe.

Santa Fe 1983, 9/11/83 to be exact.

The playing is hot and precise. The set list has a lot of great original material, including a fantastic Help>Slip> Franklin.

Truckin>Wang Dang>Morning Dew for dessert?

I am a fan of 83 Dead, and this show has it all in spades.

Wouldn't be nice

if Nugs aired Jarrod Walkers tour?

The clips I've seen, my oh my.

Been checking on the songs Jarrod co-wrote with Billy(and others sometimes): Gild the Lily, Gone a Long Time, Fire Line, This Old World, Everything's the Same.

And the songs from Walker and Christian Ward: Red Daisy, Running the Route.
