Have to switch to glasses because of double vision and I'm lost...

So I'm in my mid 30s and out of the blue I developed double vision. I saw two specialists and was diagnosed with strabismus. Right now, I'm wearing a cheap pair of glasses from Clearly with a Fresnel prism sticker on the right lens. It does the job but the sticker makes the vision in that eye pretty blurry. From what I understand, it's only a temporary fix.

I've been wearing monthly contact lenses for 15 years and never had any issues before this. I never wore glasses.

Problem is that I'm pretty much left in the dark by my local optometrist as to what type of glasses I should go with. They seem to say I can choose whatever I want. Does the shape matter? Does the frame material matter? Will it be thick as hell?

I don't want to buy a cheap pair of glasses but at the same time I don't want to spend a fortune because I expect my situation will only get worse over time and I'll likely need to have the lenses redone multiple times.

Here is my prescription :

Rx:

OD: -5.75 -0.75 × 130

OS: -5.25 -0.75 × 006

Prism:

OD: 1.5Δ BD

OS: 1.5Δ BU

I live in Canada and about 80% of the available options locally are from Luxottica brands. Most of them are pretty pricey. I have an old pair of Ray-Ban sunglasses made in Italy and all the Ray-Ban pairs made in China felt worse than the cheap glasses I bought from Clearly while costing about 8x more.

The lenses there would be made by Nikon.

OR... I could go to another place and buy unbranded glasses for way cheaper but the lenses would be made by Pentax.

Is Pentax way worse than Nikon? Is there a Luxxotica brand that is actually decent? Which coatings should I get?

Man, wearing contacts was so simple. Had the same brand for years, no issues whatsoever... I'm just lost, I don't know what I should do.
